Issue 48 begaarcher@gmail.com Editorial Utterances March 2017 Greetings All, I am still in need your stories and contributions if the newsletter is to continue! This is your branch newsletter so please contribute or I shall be forced to make up stories that may not be factual or accurate or PC. Finally got back on the bike last Saturday with a ride to Narooma for lunch with Bruce Fenney, Ernie, Jano and Peter. Great weather good food but got wet on the way home. Good to see some of the members getting out on the road rather than just haunting the coffee shops. The ladies group, the Penelope s has had a downturn in participation and I have been asked to get you blokes to let to wives / girl friends know that this group exists and needs their support. See the details of the next Penelopes Lunch on page 7. See you on the road???? James Murray - Large Editor
Presidents Yarn The President s Yarn. Well Hi to you all, by the time you all read this I will be sitting back watching The International Air Show from my sons back verandah with something cold in my hand. Next a commercial, anybody who buys tyres online might I suggest you take the wheel and tyre to South Coast Tyres in North Bega (old servo) they only charge $20 to remove, replace and dispose of it, they also know what they are doing. This month has seen several bits of kit place on conditional rego, the best was a little D1 125cc Bantam whose owner rode it from Melbourne to Wallaga Lake in two days. Some members could not do that on a machine 10 x the capacity and comfort. So just remember if your toy is 30 years or over think about putting it on Club Rego. 50 Draw No 19 was drawn and the winning No. was 27, which had the name of Peter Faulks on so, congrats to Peter and to Peter GUZZI for receiving second prize, many thanks to the members who purchased numbers not only in this draw but all the others. February s monthly dinner went off all right with a speaker who was very interesting, Rob Parsons spoke on his involvement with the Motorcycle Ministry within the Salvation Army. So if any of you think you know any one of interest who would speak at our Dinners please get in contact with me thank you. All the best Bruce Bearman Branch President Meanwhile in the Bega Valley!
RIDE TO ORBOST VIA McKILLOP S BRIDGE 8/9 APR 17 Following a number of member requests, I have volunteered to lead a ride to McKillop s Bridge. The plan is to ride to Orbost, via McKillop s Bridge on Sat 8 and Sun 9 of April. The ride will have a lot of dirt and is ideal for Adventure Bikes. In outline the route is Depart Bombala at 0930 on Saturday, 8 April. Then, Delegate; Tubbut; Mackillop's Bridge (lunch and photo op). Continue to Barry's Way in the vicinity of Wulgulmerang. Left onto Barry's Way then Murrindal; Butchers Ridge; Buchan; Wairewa. At Wairewa turn left to Nowa Nowa. At Nowa Nowa turn left onto Princes Highway and on to Orbost. Spend Saturday night at Orbost. Depart Orbost at 10.00am. Return route is North on the Bonang Road to Bombala via Bonang and Delegate. A few points on the trip; The road from Delegate to Orbost is mainly dirt. In my experience, it is in good condition, but can be challenging. I have not been South on Barry's Way. There is no food or fuel between Delegate and Orbost. The distance between Bombala and Orbost is 260km. Please ensure that you have fuel and water for the trip. You will need to bring something to eat as well. Kate intends doing the trip in her ute. If you ask nicely, I am sure that she will carry some load for us. I can also carry some extra fuel if Kate falls through. The return route (Bonang Road) is mainly tar, but with some dirt (15?km), which can be done on a well ridden road bike. It includes about 106km of twisties and is a lot of fun. Again, no fuel or water. Orbost to Bombala is 163km. If anyone has had enough adventure, an alternative route home is via the Princes Highway. Road riders could, of course, meet up with us at Orbost for a night of fun and frivolity. Please be fuelled and ready to go at the departure times. If you have an EPIRB or Spot Trakker, please bring them. Accommodation is the responsibility of individual attendees. The Commonwealth Hotel in Orbost (03 5154 1077) has rooms for $35.00 a single and $50.00 a double. They have parking at the back for bikes. On Trivago the Snowy River Lodge Motel has rooms from $95.00 and the Orbost Country Road Motor Inn starts at $100.00. I intend staying in Bombala on the Friday night. The Globe Hotel (02 6458 3077) has single rooms for $45.00 and double/twin for $65.00. They do advise that they fill up quickly. The Bombala Maneroo Motel (02 6458 3500) is $120.00 for a single and $135.00 for a twin. We have four likely starters so far. If you have any questions, ring me on 0419 316 612 or email at fenney@hotmail.com. Bruce Fenney

Ride to Cann River 5 th February Eden wharf for a coffee, great ride to Cann River via the magical Imlay Rd. After lunch, John and his pillion needed to get home so Princes Highway for them, while the rest of us went back up the Monaro Highway to Bombala and another coffee, then the pack split to go back home either via Brown Mountain or Mount Darragh. Great roads, near perfect weather, hardly any traffic, and terrific company. What more could a bloke ask for... (Oh yeah, well apart from that) Pic is at Bombala, we just got to the cafe in time. Peter Editor s Note: More ride stories and photographs are needed!!
