This is not the only toxic gas that we are collectively seeking to reduce. Sulphur oxide emissions, too, must come down worldwide, and to this end regulators have decided the global fleet must from 2020 either use emissions abatement technology known as scrubbers or run on cleaner fuel. At Finnlines we began preparing for these challenges several years ago. To comply with even tighter emissions controls already in place in the Baltic and North Sea we kicked off a scrubber installation programme. The equipnews Finnlines Plc Komentosilta 1 FI 00980 Helsinki www.finnlines.com press@finnlines.com Address changes: www.finnlines.com/finnlines-news Printed in November 2018. Circulation: 15,500 copies THE BATTLE IS ON TO REDUCE CO2 EMIS- SIONS AND FOSSIL FUEL CONSUMPTION OVER A SHORT ENOUGH TIMESCALE TO ENSURE THAT OUR CHILDREN INHERIT A WORLD IN ECOLOGICAL EQUILIBRIUM.

LENGTHENING HAS HAD A FAVOURABLE EFFECT ON THE CLIMATE. AS PART OF A PARALLEL EFFORT TO REDUCE CONSUMPTION ACROSS OUR FLEET, WE RE- BLADED TEN VESSELS between 2013 and 2015. Sailing at higher speeds is both inefficient and unnecessary on many trades. An appropriate propeller, delivering the necessary power but no more, has saved us fuel and reduced CO2 emissions on a tonne/kilometre basis. W RO-PAX CLASS THAT LIMATE FIGHT ment has brought down SOx emissions by a factor of thirty, to negligible amounts. These installations have continued at a steady rate to the point where today almost the entire Finnlines fleet 20 of our 22 ships now have scrubbers fitted. This means that ships trading outside the Baltic / North Sea low emissions areas: in, for example, the Bay of Biscay, already meet and improve on the 2020 requirement. Maritime scrubbers were an emerging technology when we began to study them, but by the time we placed our orders we were confident of their utility. Other shipowners thought differently. They held back on ordering, but now are rushing to place orders, creating a backlog that might cost them dearly. LENGTHENING HAS HAD AN EQUIVALENT, BENEFICIAL EFFECT. We lengthened Finnlines vessels in two waves, the second of which should be completed by the end of 2018, bringing the total number of lengthened units to six. The tonne/kilometre consumption of these vessels has been reduced by 30%. Looking to the future, we will from 2021 take delivery of three ice-class newbuilds. Their design and size mean they are among the most fuel-efficient on the market. Those who attended the Grimaldi Group s Euro-Med convention, which this year took place in Greece, will know that we are now planning a new series of Superstar ro-pax vessels. In addition to the appropriate propellers, these ships will come pre-equipped with scrubbers and other advanced fuel consumption reduction systems. In both linear-metre capacity and cabin numbers, the duo will be larger and more efficient than the tonnage they will replace. We are working with top Scandinavian engineers on designs that will meet both our demands and the expectations of our passengers. We hope to take delivery within three years of finalising the design. WITH TROPICAL STORMS NOW WITNESSED AT LATITUDES PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN, the fight against climate change has taken on a dramatic urgency. Reducing fuel consumption and emissions means we remain both competitive and firm in our commitment to play a role in this vital battle for our planet s health. 3

EMANUELE GRIMALDI AWARDED AS COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF THE LION OF FINLAND The president of the Republic of Finland, President Sauli Niinistö, has conferred Finnlines President and CEO Mr Emanuele Grimaldi with a decoration of Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland. The decoration is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves in the service of Finland. Finnish ambassador to Italy, Mr Janne Taalas, has stated that the decoration is a recognition to Mr Emanuele Grimaldi s long-term efforts in Finland and at Finnlines, which is extremely significant to Finnish exports. The ceremony was held on 4 th of July at the Finnish Embassy in Rome. I am very pleased to receive this honour. We worked very hard in Finnlines, as a team of hundreds of employees both at sea and ashore, to improve our operational and economic performances, achieving results beyond our expectations and allowing us to position the company among the successful business stories in the Baltic area. It is an honour for me to lead this team, and to receive this prestigious award from the President of the Republic of Finland and the Ambassador of Finland in Italy, said Emanuele Grimaldi. There are only very few foreign citizens who have been honoured with the decoration of this high level. Finnlines President and CEO Emanuele Grimaldi received his medal of honour from the ambassador Janne Taalas. AROUND 2,100 CYCLISTS ACROSS 54 TEAMS IN SEVEN COUNTRIES ARE EXPECTED TO CYCLE TO PARIS WITH THE CHARITY CYCLING TEAM RYNKEBY. Community involvement in Finnlines FINNLINES COLLABORATES AND INTERACTS WITH DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS AND ORGANISATIONS. ONE OF THE ORGANISATIONS IS THE AAMU PEDIATRIC CANCER FOUNDATION WHICH FINNLINES SUPPORTED IN 2017. THIS YEAR FINNLINES HAS, AS BEFORE, CONTINUED COOPERATION WITH THE CYCLING CHARITY TEAM RYNKEBY GOD MORGON AS THE FINNISH TEAMS CROSS OVER TO TRAVEMÜNDE ONBOARD FINNLINES TO BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY TO PARIS. COOPERATION WITH NORDIC CHARITY CYCLING TEAM Approximately 300 cyclist and service team members from seven different cities in Finland started their journey towards Paris from Helsinki, Vuosaari in June 2018, to raise funds for children with cancer. The Finnish teams cross over to Travemünde onboard Finnlines. Every summer Team Rynkeby God Morgon Finland cycle to Paris to raise money for seriously ill children in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Germany. In each country the money is donated to local organisations that help children. In 2018, Team Rynkeby donated to the Finnish organisations a record amount of EUR 886,372. The next Rynkeby trip to Paris is already on the upswing. Around 2,100 cyclists across 54 teams in seven countries are expected to cycle to Paris with the charity cycling Team Rynkeby. Finnlines will be a part of the journey for the Finnish teams. AID TO CHILDREN During 2017, Finnlines was an official Finland 100 partner and supported the Aamu Pediatric Cancer Foundation with EUR 50,000. Aamu Pediatric Cancer Foundation supports implementation of newest research achievements for the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer. Liver tumours are rare but severe and account for 1% of paediatric tumours. Their incidence, however, has been increasing with improved neonatal care for preterm infants, who have an increased risk of developing liver tumours. Finland has just been asked to join the Paediatric Hepatic International Tumour Trial (PHITT) that is a clinical trial within the Children s Liver Tumour European Research Network (ChiLTERN) Programme. Due to Finnlines donation to the implementation of the PHITT Trial in Finland via Aamu we have now the possibility to be part of the most advantageous liver treatment for children. 5

GREEN SHIPPING Finnlines actions in sustainable shipping Shipping is a global business and a sustainable and socially responsible business model becomes more important year by year. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) issues international rules and regulations on safety and environmental matters. European shipping companies must also fully comply with national and EU legislation. IMO s global regulatory framework IMO manages international legislation on safety and environmental matters, and for example 21 IMO s treaty instruments are directly environment-related Stricter emission limits for SOx, NOx and CO2 DCS Data collection system to start on 1 January 2019 Ballast Water Management Convention to prevent the transfer of invasive species EU / national regulatory framework MRV Monitoring, reporting and verification of CO2 emissions EEDI tool to indicate ships performance in energy efficiency Finnlines actions Green Ro-Ro Newbuilding Programme Three new ro-ro vessels to be built Electrical power storage system to enable zero emissions during port stay; air lubrication system under the keel to reduce friction, advance integrated propeller-rudder system Emission reduction Exhaust gas scrubbers installed on 21 ships Fuel efficiency Energy-efficient fleet e.g. ship-lengthening programme to improve energy efficiency Brushing of vessel s bottom and hull Optimum trim and ballast Painting the underwater hull with silicon anti-fouling Reblading (propeller blades changed and Promas Lite systems installed) Slow steaming, optimisation of schedules Ballast water management Treatment systems are under investigation in Finnlines 6

Five Breeze series ro-ro vessels have been lengthened at Remontowa Shiprepair Yard in Gdansk, Poland. The last vessel will be modified by the end of 2018. The lengthening programme brings online another 6,000 linear metres of rolling cargo, which equals two sizeable vessels. Customers benefit from spacious cargo decks and Finnlines will improve its operational efficiency. 7

The Our Ports series introduces some of our visiting ports. In the previous issues we have presented Naantali, Kapellskär, Hanko, Gdynia and Rostock. This time we are focusing on Uusikaupunki. The series will continue in the upcoming Finnlines News issues. Growing with customers Hull improving cargo handling Tilbury During the last few years, cargo volumes, trailers in particular, have grown substantially on the Uusikaupunki Travemünde route. Aarhus Travemünde Rostock Lübeck Malmö The increase in car production at Valmet Automotive s manufacturing plant in Uusikaupunki has brought the need for new transportation solutions and all parties involved in the transport chain have made major investments. Finnlines early response was to lengthen four (later all six) of its Breeze series ro-ro vessels and increase the vessels cargo carrying capacity by 30%. Two of the lengthened vessels have been deployed on the Uusikaupunki Travemünde route. In addition, two smaller vessels take turns to serve the customers once a week. Thus, Finnlines flag calls Uusikaupunki six times a week, offering nearly 23,000 lane metres for rolling cargo, a significant increase over the last five years. The Port of Uusikaupunki has contributed to the project by lengthening its ro-ro berth by 30 metres to fit Finnlines lengthened vessels. Cargo volumes have grown and it s great to now have a modern port up and running. The investments enable us to create the prerequisites for further development. We are ready to meet future volumes and larger vessels, says Esa Soini, Managing Director, Port of Uusikaupunki. CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT In spite of the increase in cargo volumes, the turnaround time in port must not be much longer. For that purpose Finnlines has focused on developing innovative port services solutions in Uusikaupunki and Travemünde and has invested in new cargo equipment. These ambitious efforts should improve stevedoring safety at work and reduce stopover hours. Growing with customers is one of the key elements of our strategy. This is the next step. First, we invested in our fleet and now we will further develop our operations. Our focus is now on cargo handling and port operations. We can ensure our service is easy and cost-efficient. Safety is another important aspect. In Finnlines, we make continuous efforts to offer safe, reliable and environmentally friendly services to our customers, says Thomas Doepel, Head of Group Purchasing, Finnlines. The two stevedoring companies in Germany and Finland, LHG and Stevena, have also actively participated in these actions. Stevena has invested in several new tugmasters, and stevedores will be trained for new working routines. We will focus on the further improvement of our equipment, services and IT tools, as well as on training our personnel and making them multi-skilled. This will create new opportunities and foster more efficient working partnerships, says Markku Mäkipere, CEO of Stevena. 8

Kapellskär Långnäs Uusikaupunki Naantali Turku Hanko Helsinki Kotka St. Petersburg Paldiski Gdynia THE PORT OF UUSIKAUPUNKI is a modern and efficient port. Due to the port s investments in its infrastructure the port can meet future volumes and larger sizes. In 2017, the Port of Uusikaupunki started construction works to extend the berth by over 30 metres. Also, other construction works, for example to facilitate the growth of space needed, were done.
