ABOUT THE CAPTAIN S JUBILEE The Captain's Jubilee is an exclusive, four-course dinner with wine pairings for each course. It is held annually and supports the preservation of the Historic Ships fleet and the development of our educational programming. In the past, this exclusive event has celebrated the completion of the USS Constellation dry docking and significant repairs to USS Torsk. It is also our opportunity to honor those who have made it their special mission to support Historic Ships in Baltimore. Special thanks to Rouge Fine Catering for creating the unique menu paired with the featured wines. Tobacco Barn Distillery from Hollywood, Maryland will also be on-hand to showcase tastings of the new USS Constellation Rum. This year, we honor Tobacco Barn Distillery for their incredible partnership. Last December, the two 53- gallon rum barrels weighing approximately 500 pounds each were hoisted aboard the USS Constellation with help from Tobacco Barn Distillery, Domino Sugar and the Maryland Department of Commerce. The barrels were stored in the ship s hold and aged for the next four months. It s been more than 150 years since the USS Constellation sailed with barrels of rum resting on her keel. Back in the 1800 s, the rum, or grog ration was routine for sailors a tradition that the Navy abolished in 1862. We will also unveil the new Ship s Stove and honor long-time volunteer John Barnard for his generous gift which made the Stove s fabrication possible. ABOUT THE ADMIRAL ROYAL INGERSOLL AWARD Each year, Historic Ships in Baltimore honors an individual, company or organization who has made significant impact on a specific vessel, the lighthouse or the entire fleet in the form of financial contributions, in-kind services, volunteer services or other support exemplifying a substantial commitment to Historic Ships in Baltimore. The recipient of the Admiral Royal Ingersoll Award is recognized annually at its gala fundraiser, the Historic Ships Captain s Jubilee. Past Honorees General Ship Repair Corporation {2014} Vane Brothers Company {2015} Cianbro Corporation {2016} Admiral Royal E. Ingersoll, Commander in Chief, US Atlantic Fleet (CINCLANT) transferred his staff to USS Constellation on 19 January 1942, and remained on board until 20 July of that year. During this time, Constellation was designated the flagship of the US Atlantic Fleet and Admiral Ingersoll received his 4-Star promotion. To honor her father s legacy, the late Mrs. Alice Nagle, daughter of Admiral Ingersoll, made a significant bequest to Historic Ships in Baltimore to help provide for the long-term maintenance and care of USS Constellation. It is in this spirit that Historic Ships in Baltimore created the Admiral Royal Ingersoll Award.
ABOUT HISTORIC SHIPS IN BALTIMORE Historic Ships in Baltimore is the steward of one of America s premier ship collections. The fleet includes the 1854 US Sloop-of-War Constellation, the USCGC Taney built in 1936, the US Submarine Torsk launched in 1944, the Lightship Chesapeake which entered service in 1930, and the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse which marked the entrance to the Patapsco River and Baltimore Harbor starting in 1856. Each of these very special artifacts is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has its own unique story to tell. While maintenance and preservation of the vessels is always a priority, education is the primary focus of Historic Ships in Baltimore. Over 130,000 visitors explore the decks annually and learn what it was like for sailors to live and work at sea. Historic Ships hosts close to 5,000 Overnight Adventure students and their parents each year. Historic Ships in Baltimore participates in regional programs such as Pre-K at Play, a citywide initiative designed to introduce young children and their families to the many learning activities that the area offers. Discounted admission is provided to Baltimore City school children as well as many special needs groups, and Historic Ships contributes hundreds of free tickets to deserving non-profits. Historic Ships in Baltimore is an important community asset that requires support from many sources to accomplish its mission. Volunteer opportunities to assist with interpretation programs and preservation projects are available at Historic Ships in Baltimore but it is through individual and corporate sponsorships that we continue to offer high quality programs and maintain the fleet for future generations. Your support of our mission is greatly appreciated. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and our loyal volunteers, we thank you very much!
