Here in the wilderness three cultures meet, Finnish, Swedish and Saami (Lapp). A thrilling different part of Scandinavia, known as Lapland. On an island in the river Muonio, looking out over two countries, lays Rajamaa. We have fully equipped chalets and a little restaurant. Here, some 200 km above the Arctic Circle, Lapland is at its best and cleanest, with deep forests, mighty rivers and the mountains rising at the horizon. Old paths and small roads wind through the forests and along rivers. From the hills You have breath-taking views of the wilderness. Birds, flowers, animals, the whole nature is significant for Lapland. Many northern species are only found here in what is known as the western-most part of the enormous Taiga. The season goes from mid-june to the end of September. From blooming meadows, over summer s midnight-sun, the autumn colours of "Ruska", to the frosty coming of the winter. Here You can enjoy the clean untouched Lapland, its nature, people and their rare culture. During some days You will, far away from the everyday worries, experience the genuine fascinating Lapland where man still lives in harmony with nature. 2 Day 1 At the airport in Rovaniemi, our bus is ready to take us through Lapland. We head westward towards the Muonio River until we reach Rajamaa. We install ourselves in the nice fully equipped chalets, and then gather in the main building for a drink of welcome. We get to know each other and check the program of the week. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner there will be a presentation, in words and showing unique pictures by the Swedish photographer Staffan Widstrand. Today we present the first of The big four, the Scandinavian big predators, the very shy Lynx. Day 2 Breakfast.By the first trekking-tour we leave our island, and go north. We will reach the River Muonio by the Great Äijäkoski Rapids. Lunch-package will be eaten by the rapids, with a splendid view. We follow the river down-stream andin the after-noon we will reach Rajamaa again. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner we continue to present, in words and unique pictures, The big four, the Scandinavian big predators. Today the mysterious Wolverine. Day 3 After breakfast we go by bus to the village of Yli-Muonio, in Finland, to start our canoe trip. We paddle along the mighty River Muonio, with Finland on the left side and Sweden on the right. Passing meadows and hills we reach the ancient cemetery of Akanmella. We make a stop by this historically interesting place, before we continue down the river. Lunch by the campfire, or in some old farmer s cabin. We continue along the river and spot the church-tower in Muonio, and then we are close to our goal. Transport back to Rajamaa.We will get our mountain-bikes and make a shorter test ride to adjust saddles aso. Dinner at the restaurant. 3 Day 4 After breakfast we start our biking tour. We will make our first stop by the church in Muodoslompolo, and then bike around the Lake Muodosjärvi, and we make a lunch break by the River Merasjoki, before biking back to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner we will go by mini-bus to Metelivaara and then walk a shorter walk to our wildwatching-hide. The hide has beds for resting and small windows for everyone. Some distance away we have put out food and during the night we hope to observe some of the exciting birds and animals of the Lapland forest. A very special experience. Back to Rajamaa for breakfast. Day 5 After breakfast it is possible to rest some hours after a night with less sleep. At noon we go to meet our friends the huskies. We will make a walk with the dogs through the forest. Everyone can try to walk with a husky tied to a belt cani-rando. By the path we make a stop to eat the sandwiches and then we walk home with our foulegged friends. Dinner at the restaurant. 5 Day 6 After breakfast we start our 2 day tour through. We leave our island by boat, and from there we walk south along old paths. The lunch will be eaten by the camp-fire. We walk over pine-clad hills and in the evening we reach our goal. Our hotel is a log-cabin in the forest, just by the mighty River Muonio, warmed by wood-fire and with water from a stream. We prepare the supper and heat up the sauna. Day 7 After breakfast, we follow a very old path, until we reach Mukkaharjut, an ancient reindeer summit place of the forest-saamis. There we will meet Henrik Sevä, a saami whos family have hearded reindeers in this area for generations. He will tell us about the rare culture, about old days and modern times. We walk cross the great forests. The lunch will be eaten by the camp-fire. In the after-noon we will reach Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant. Day 8 After breakfast transfer to Kittilä airport. Included: Transfer from/to Kittilä or Rovaniemi airport, Kolari train or Pajala bus station. 7 night s accommodation in well-equipped chalets. Lapland full-board Breakfast, lunch-package and dinner. From dinner day 1 to breakfast day 8. Drinks not included. Guide. All activities and transports according to program.
