ITINERARY AT A GLANCE Day 1: CUSCO OLLANTAYTAMBO AGUAS CALIENTES Meeting point at Maximo Nivel. Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES MACHU PICCHU AGUAS CALIENTES CUSCO. Early in morning, collective tourist bus up to the Incan City of Machu Picchu. Meeting with your guide at Machu Picchu s main entrance. Guided group visit of Machu Picchu of about 2½ hour and free time to explore the site on your own. Collective tourist bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Last minute shopping. ITINERARY Day 1: CUSCO OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES Depending on your train departure time, we ll all get together at Máximo Nivel, to then go from Cusco to Ollantaytambo s railway station in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and from there, catch the Expedition (2 nd Class Backpacker) or Vistadome (1 st Class) train to Aguas Calientes. The train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes about 1½ hour. You can also choose to departure from the railway station in Poroy, a little town near Cusco, to enjoy a 3½ to 4 hour scenic journey through the Andes and jungle s edge area, all the way to Aguas Calientes. In Aguas Calientes one of our staff members will be waiting for you to help you with your luggage and assist you to your hotel. This afternoon, you will have time to get familiarized with the small pedestrian village of Aguas Calientes. In the evening, your guide will give you a short briefing at your hotel about the next day s excursion to the Incan complex Machu Picchu. TRANSPORTATION Private transportation from Cusco to Ollantaytambo // Ollantaytambo to Cusco. Expedition or Vistadome train from Poroy or Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. (Subject to availability). Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES MACHU PICCHU AGUAS CALIENTES CUSCO Today, you ll be getting up quite early, to have breakfast and catch an early morning collective tourist bus for a 30 minute ride up the meandering road that leads to the Sacred Incan City of Machu Picchu. Upon your arrival, an assistant will be waiting for you which will present you to your guide. With your guide, you will have a wonderful 2½ hour group tour in Machu Picchu. After the tour, you can explore a little bit on your own and walk to the Temple of the Moon, the Incan Bridge, Inti Punku or Sun s Gate for example, sites which offer you breathtaking panoramic views of Machu Picchu and its surrounding. You could also add the additional tour of climbing the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to your weekend tour for an extra fee. If you wish to add one of these hikes, make sure you book it with plenty of time in advance, since there are only 400 access tickets issued per day, and these are not interchangeable. Afterwards, when you are ready to leave Machu Picchu, you can take the collective tourist bus that will take you back down to Aguas Calientes. There you can have lunch, explore, do some last shopping, and pick up your luggage at the hotel, before boarding the Expedition or Vistadome train for a 1½ hour ride to Ollantaytambo, to then board our private car and back to Cusco. If you have booked the train direct from Aguas Calientes to Poroy, where you will arrive after nightfall, you will be welcomed by our driver who will take you to your family place or hotel. Personal expenses and purchases throughout the whole program. OUR RECOMMENDATIONS: Take a daypack along with things you will only need for the excursion. Wear light comfortable clothes, but take a sweater and jacket along. Wear good hiking shoes or sneakers, with cotton socks to avoid sweating and blisters. A rain poncho/jacket in case it might rain. Bring sunblock lotion, insect repellent, a wide-brim hat and sunglasses along. Buy some healthy energetic snacks and a bottle of mineral water for the trip. Take Peruvian currency (about 200.00 Nuevos Soles) along, in small cuts and coins. If you bring your Credit Card just in case, keep it at a safe place. Take binoculars, your camera and/or camcorder along, with spare batteries and memory cards Have throwaway paper handkerchiefs and plastic bags for garbage in your daypack. Visit the local thermal baths, to enjoy a warm dip in the afternoon/evening (Not included in the price). Climbing the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (not included in the price, extra fee $15.00).
