Being a doctoral graduate in Civil & Architectural Engineering and Hotel Management discipline, Dr. Chan has been an active researcher and has received over million HK$ from local and external research grants. He has authored over 50 refereed articles in academic journals in both hospitality and architectural fields. In 2009, he obtained School s Excellent Research Award. His publications cover a wide spectrum including sustainability, catering, human resources, finance, renewable energy and museum. Specifically, his funded research projects and experiments include energy savings in hospitality-related facilities solar collector, PV, heat pumps, HVAC, solar control films and kitchen equipment, both indoor and outdoor air quality as well as water savings in hotels and restaurants. Prior joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he served various international hotel chains Accor, Hilton, Furama and Crowne Plaza. He involved in four hotel projects planning and pre-opening, prepared feasibility study about resort hotel and had substantial experience in hotel operations- finance, human resource and front office. His station experience in the hospitality industry included Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and London. Besides, Dr. Chan had participated actively in the Chinese restaurant sector. These include his over 12-year professional services in the Association of Restaurant Managers, consultancy for the Employee Retraining Board about Chinese restaurants, and a number of researches in Chinese catering area. The Hong Kong government has also appointed him as an advisor of the Chinese catering qualification framework committee as well as the advisory board member Talent and Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.
