Salem HOG Poker Run Planning It is that time again; time to start planning the Poker Run for August 3. We had our first planning meeting March 29th and the volunteer list has started. There will be opportunities to sign up to help at the chapter meeting in April. All chapter members need to be involved in obtaining donations for the raffle prizes and dispersing fliers to advertise the event. A letter will soon be available to give to each business supplying prizes. The ending site is still up in the air, but we are looking at ending at the Salem Elks, as well as several other places. We will be starting from the dealership and Wilsonville again. We are looking for vendors for our event, so if you have a business or know of a business that would like to set up a booth, let the Vendor Committee know. And speaking of committees, again, we need volunteers for a lot of things. Sign up at the chapter meeting or email Sue Rohde. Klickitat Canyon Ride Special thanks to the Sunset HOG Chapter for a great ride up the Klickitat Canyon to Goldendale for lunch. Tho there were only a few of us brave souls from Salem, we appreciated the opportunity to ride with and get to know a few more fellow HOG lovers. For those of you that missed this ride, you might want to mark it on your calendar for next year. It was one of those memory maker type rides, well planned out, curvy, winding roads, a resturant that could cater to all of us, eagles flying over head, and sunshine (ok, so it was really really cold sunshine!) but it was sunny! We received a warm welcome from all and look forward to joining together in another event! I ve suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs...phone rings, but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently, although when I ask their names she always says, Just some friends from work, you don t know them. I sometimes stay awake to look out for her cab coming home, but she always comes walking up the drive as I hear the sound of a car leaving, around the corner, as if she has gotten out and walked the rest of the way. I once picked up her cell phone, just to see what time it was. She went berserk. She snatched the phone out of my hand and cursed me, screaming I should never touch her personal property, then she accused me of trying to spy on her. Anyway, I have never broached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn t want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her. I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the street when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my motorcycle that I noticed a small amount of motor oil leaking through the gasket between the rear head and rocker arm cover. So... is this something I can easily repair myself or should I take it back to the dealer? 11

April 2008 Membership Dues for the New Year It s a new year and now once more its time for us to renew our membership in Salem HOG. So, come to the next meeting with your dues and get ready for another great year. And yes, dues are still only $15.00. What a deal. Cheap. If you can t make it to a meeting you can mail a check to the Salem HOG address shown on the back of the newsletter or drop it into the HOG box at the Salem Harley Davidson dealership. Easy. After the April chapter meeting, all of those that have yet to join for 2008 will be removed from the National database,. This will keep up up to date with National Harley. Currently, we have 89 members registered for 2008. There are 193 registered on the National database so I will have quite a few to remove. 14

May 2008 Why Wear Leather? Because most injuries are caused from skidding along the ground, abrasion resistance is vital. One of the best sources on abrasion is the famed Torn in the U.S.A. drag test conducted almost 20 years ago by now-defunct Cycle magazine. For that test, clothing samples were stitched to a 75-pound sandbag and thrown out of the back of a pickup truck to see how long they d take to disintegrate. Competition-weight leather (1.5-1.7 mm thick) lasted longest -- about four times longer than Kevlar, five times longer than 440 denier Cordura nylon and 20 times longer than denim jeans, which take about half a second to give out in a 30 mph crash.
