Introducing Patheon in Swindon

What you should know about Swindon 1Swindon was built as a junction between London and Bristol, which allowed the trains on the railway to stop while their engines were changed, and allow the passengers to have a break from travelling. 2Swindon Railway Works is an important part of the town s history, opening in January 1843 as a repair and maintenance facility for the new Great Western Railway. By 1900, The Works had expanded dramatically and employed over 12,000 people. At its peak in the 1930s, The Works covered over 300 acres and was capable of producing three locomotives a week. 3 4 Swindon has excellent sports facilities, with a full-sized ice rink at the Link Centre - hosting the Ice Hockey team the Swindon Wildcats, - and the famous Swindon Oasis, with a tropical dome and exciting Domebuster water slides. Swindon has excellent accommodation options, with numerous places for visitors to stay whilst in the town on business or vacation. 5The world famous landmark Stonehenge is only a short distance from Swindon and attracts tourists from all over the globe. 6The nearby towns of Bath and Cirencester are full of history with the former being a UNESCO world heritage centre and home to the famous Roman baths and museums. Working in Swindon Getting the right visa If you are a citizen from one of the countries in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area, you currently do not need a visa to visit, live, work or study in England. Anyone from outside the EU can obtain a visa using the Tier system: Tier 1: high-value investors and entrepreneurs Tier 2: skilled workers when proven scarce in the UK Tier 3: lower-skilled workers for temporary labour workers in shortages Tier 4: students aged over 16 (university students typically) are eligible for student visa s, which often come with restrictions on the number of hours that can be worked. Taxes Employers have had to deduct personal income tax and national insurance contributions from employment via a system called PAYE (Pay As You Earn) for a significant amount of time now. Unemployment levels are one of the lowest in the country and according to recent reports, statistics show that Swindon s economy has outperformed the rest of the UK for a significant amount of time now. The surrounding areas of Swindon are some of the most highly sought after areas to live and work. Recently Swindon has been further boosted by a 350 million investment to improve the town s leisure and retail facilities. The regeneration of the town centre is set to reclaim Swindon s title as one of the fastest growing towns in Europe and to cope with the demand of 40,000 new homes which are set for construction over the next 15 years. Whether you re looking for a place to work remotely or somewhere good to entertain a client Swindon has countless restaurants, cafes and bars serving a selection of great food and drinks. Huge organisations such as Honda, Intel, First Great Western and Nationwide have all made Swindon their home and thanks to the strong local economy and productive work force that the town offers, have thrived. National Insurance Number To receive free medical care in the UK you will need a national insurance number, which you have to apply for. You can only apply for it once you re in the UK. For more information please visit https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number

Living in Swindon Excellent transport connections Within the area, as well as strong rail connections to the rest of the country, Swindon is also well served by nearby motorways: the M4 and the M5. Bristol (30 miles) and London Heathrow (100 miles) International Airports are reachable by car, whilst the ports of Southampton and Bristol are also nearby. Skilled workforce Good progress has been made in qualifying the local workforce. The Swindon and Wiltshire LEP area have a higher percentage of L4+ qualifications than nationally. The unemployment rate is also well below the national average. The GVA per hour worked, which is an indicator of productivity, is also higher than the national average. Sustainable labour Swindon is close to excellent quality universities in nearby Bristol, Bath, Oxford and London, as well as 74% of local schools rated good or outstanding, ensuring the workforce of the future will be high quality. Leisure Time Swindon has excellent outdoor facilities with various local public parks - such as Lydiard Park and Coate Water - and a wide range of entertainment options including Swindon s local theatre, the Wyvern Theatre. Swindon is centrally located with excellent connections, a legacy of fast growth and boundless enthusiasm. Swindon attracts interest from those who are looking to invest, start or grow a business, or relocate their home or job.

Site information The Swindon operations offer full commercial manufacturing services for conventional solid and semi-solid dosage forms, sterile products and high-potency products. Swindon champions the Condo Model and manufactures speciality products for unique clients. With over 200 employees it offers a wonderful mix of laboratory, business and production, leading to an exciting buzz onsite. Our site has seen many changes over the years and is now experiencing huge growth with new exciting condos (clients) expected to continue our sustainability and growth, for many more years to come.

A commitment to developing the talent of the future In 2017 we commenced our Talent of the Future initiative and are now working towards developing a Future Talent Academy. We actively support local schools through project initiatives, work experience placements, tours of our site and course partnerships and placements for college students. We also recruit apprentices for full educational and work combinations and interns for the summer or for the year. Working at Patheon Helpful links: Patheon careers About Patheon Patheon sites What I like best about working for Patheon are the challenging and diverse tasks we focus on every day together as a team. Whenever you face a problem you can rely on the help of colleagues and supervisors. The site management in Linz clearly cares for the human behind the job. Leisure activities like excursions, one-day-trips and sightseeing are offered during the year and boost the friendly and jovial working atmosphere. Katrin, Apprentice Chemical Process Engineer Patheon has been a great accelerator for my personal and professional growth. Working in a dynamic international environment, I quickly learned that hard work can open up not only site-based job rotation but also exciting new opportunities in the Patheon international network. Lorena, Monza-Groningen I prefer to work with a global corporation like Patheon. It offers many new perspectives on a daily basis. Patheon is a strong market player which I like very much. I am in daily contact with many different technical crews at the site and being first point of contact when it comes to problem solving and working together in a team to find the right solution, is a key part in my job.
