From walking tours on vast slopes and forests to extreme mountain climbing Serbian mountains are interesting for those who have an adventurous spirit; those who let themselves explore caves and river gorges. The most significant species of Tara s flora is Serbian Spruce whilst fauna is famous for brown bear, chamois and golden eagle. Tara is covered with impenetrable forests, colorful meadows, ruptures and caves. Park has lots of walking tracks, jogging and bicycle traces, sports grounds, ski pistes and lifts. ZLATIBOR Zlatibor is the tourist center with the longest tradition among Serbian resorts. Clean, unpolluted air, clear water of river and hospitality of locals attract tourist to Zlatibor all the year round.

Uvac Spread your wings and soar above the clouds! Pristine nature and turquoise water of the lake, magnificent landscapes and high clear sky whished with wide wings of Griffon vulture this is why so many tourists come to see fantastic meanders of Uvac. The river has been for years seeping through soft limestone rocks and thus left exceptionally deep meanders with capes and caves the most famous of which has a romantic name. Unique nature of Uvac Reserve has made it possible that it turned into biggest habitat of Griffon Vulture, bird of prey with 3 m wing span and weight up to 11 kg, known as the symbol of the country. Nowadays Serbian habitat of Griffon counts up to 400 species that may be observed from special platforms over the lake.

All the objects of this village are made of local wood; this is where the name comes from: Drven (wooden) + Grad (town). For full immersion tourists may enjoy Kusturica s film in local cinema and try specialties of Western Serbia cuisine. 18

1000 thermal springs and 50 working resorts Health Resorts The beginning of development of spa resorts and spa tourism in Serbia dates back to the times of Roman Empire, approximately early II century AD. Lots of material proofs: pools, metal coins, water pipes, heating pipes and written documents, confirm the fact that Romans had some kind of a cult of thermal waters, so Serbia can now be proud of some spa resorts that were built at this area by Roman Emperors. What is more, 500 years of presence of Ottoman invaders left its mark on the spa development in Serbia, first of all prominent Turkish baths or hammams, forerunner of modern Spa and Wellness centers. Most famous resorts of Serbia Vrnjačka Spa Soko Spa Bukovička Spa Vrdnik Spa Koviljača Spa Prolom Spa Lukovska Spa Kanjiža Spa Atomic Spa Vrujci Spa Selters Spa Niška Spa

Nowadays, with more than 1000 of thermal and mineral springs and more than 50 organized spa resorts, Serbia is listed among the richest European countries, whilst spa-tourism is one of the foundations of tourism development. Every spa is proud of its unique spring with particular chemical composition of mineral waters that help people with various diseases. Along with classical treatment, for which thermal and mineral waters, mud and gases are used, Serbia offers air-spas the most prominent of which are Zlatibor and Zlatar.

Monasteries Getting acquainted with Serbian people, their traditions, customs and culture should be started by visiting Serbian monasteries. The term monastery basically means a church with accompanying buildings where according to the rules monks and nuns live. Serbia can be proud of its 212 monasteries, 54 of which were proclaimed cultural monuments. Moreover, UNESCO World Heritage List includes Serbian monasteries Sopoćani and Đurđevi Stupovi with the church of Saint Peter and Paul, Studenica monastery, medieval monasteries in southern Serbian Province Kosovo and Metohija called Dečani, Pećka Patriarchy, Gračanica, and the Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš.

212 monasteries, 54 of which are cultural monuments! MONASTERY tours Valley of the kings Valley of the Kings in the valley of Ibar and Raška Rivers was the place where in the 12th century Serbian Medieval State had been born. Here the most prominent Middle Age monasteries are located: Đurđevi Stupovi, Studenica, Žiča and Sopoćani. Fantastic mixture of Byzantine and Romanesque styles created a new, particular tendency in Serbian architecture famous Raška style. The above mentioned monasteries are included in Route of culture Transromanica that binds European objects built in Romanesque period. Morava Monasteries In the valley of the Morava River after tragic battles in Kosovo and River Marica against Ottomans, Morava architecture school was born and influenced by Byzantia. Monasteries Manasija, Ravanica, Kalenić, Ljubostinja were built at that time, late 14th-early 15th century, when Serbian Despotic state was flourishing. Fruška Gora Monasteries North of Serbia, slopes of fertile mountain Fruška Gora known as Serbian Holy Mountain, host 17 monasteries built mainly during the rule of Ottoman Empire in Serbia in 15th and 16th centuries, when Serbian court was hiding at the territory of Hungary of that time. Firstly built in Morava-Raška style, the monasteries after destruction and restorations got rich baroque look. Kosovo Monasteries Extreme South of Serbia, Province of Kosovo and Metohija where medieval Serbian State in the 13th and 14th centuries became enormous and great, hosts the most beautiful and precious monasteries, gems of Serbian genius of Middle Age. Priceless frescoes made under great Byzantine influence are well preserved in Dećani, Gračanica Monasteries and Patriarchy of Peć. 22

Serbian flow of Danube is 588 km long! Danube, the river with a thousand faces, differs from other rivers not only in natural riches but in great cultural and historical heritage. Even ancient chronicles contain notes about Danube s importance and its status of the greatest among rivers. Numerous first settlements in Europe appeared on the banks of this guardian of time. Archaeological findings prove that Danube has been source of life for ancient cultures of Lepenski Vir and Vinča from VI century BC. Danube was the most important connection between East and West and border of the Roman Empire, evidence of which are the remains of Viminacium, Roman town and fortification, Trajan s bridge and Roman limes. Nowadays Danube, the only waterway, still plays the role of uniting link between western and eastern parts of the European continent.

Exactly in Serbia this peaceful flat ground river turns into fast tumultuous flow. Upstream waters of Danube at Vojvodina plain flow down to Fruška Gora, former Austrian-Hungarian city of Novi Sad, romantic Sremski Karlovci, modern capital Belgrade and medieval capital Smederevo. After Golubac Fotress where Danube is the widest (about 6 km) wild and impervious Djerdap gorge starts, the biggest river gorge in Europe 98 km long. Here famous Kazan is located the deepest (90 m) and narrowest (only 150 m) place of Danube famous as the Iron Gate that for centuries has been defending Serbian lands from conquerors. Although Danube flows through 10 countries, its flow through Serbia is considered to be most attractive to tourists due to the above mentioned facts.

Serbian Cuisine Serbian cuisine will spice things up! National cuisine of Serbia is many-sided as country s history. Under different cultures that ruled over this territory, Serbian culinary, full of eclecticism and various influences, but simple and soulful at the same time, was born. Serbian feast, seasoned with local spicy pepper, strong plum rakia, home-made warm bread and dried meat, will never leave you cold or hungry. Every region of Serbia can boast of its table delicacies: paprikash from Vojvodina and Niš burek, prosciutto from Zlatibor and Zlatar cheese accompanied with Eastern Serbia wines... Serbian cuisine is the real cream of the crop!

Expand boundaries and explore Balkan horizons! Balkans Balkan peninsula for centuries has been the area where great empires and religions confronted, where main routes to East and West met and where nations mixed and co-existed.
