Dear Yale Traveler The Roman amphitheater in Pula. The Renaissance treasures of Trogir. The glittering mosaics of Ravenna. These cultural marvels continue to delight us centuries after their creation. Join Yale next summer as we discover them, and more, on an art-filled voyage along the Adriatic coast. We'll board the majestic Sea Cloud in Dubrovnik and sail up the Dalmatian coast to the island of Hvar. In Split, we'll will wander the vast ruins of Diocletian s Palace where 3,000 people once lived before visiting UNESCO-listed Trogir. Together, we'll experience the remarkable amphitheater in Pula, then cross to Italy for an inland visit to Urbino. In Ravenna, the city s celebrated mosaics will inspire us along the journey toward Venice. The elegant Sea Cloud is a destination unto herself. As her energetic crew scales the masts to set the sails by hand, we'll relax in the congenial company of Harvard alumni and members of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Traveling with us will be Boris Berman, Professor in the Practice of Piano at the Yale School of Music. Professor Berman regularly appears with leading orchestras, in major recital series, and at important festivals. Also joining us aboard Sea Cloud will be Robert Darnton of Harvard University, who will lecture on history and Marco Leona from the Department of Conservation and Scientific Research at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, who will speak about conservation and preservation. For those wishing to spend more time ashore, an optional prelude is offered in Dubrovnik, and an optional postlude in Venice and Asolo. I hope you will come aboard this extraordinary voyage. Hutton, desired a craft like no other. They spared no expense to create the largest private sailing ship ever built and in 1931, Sea Cloud was launched. In the 30s and 40s, as she sailed the world, the four-masted beauty was host to leaders including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Sweden s King Gustavus V. Now carefully restored by a team of master craftspeople, this great lady continues to offer elegant quarters, fine dining, and impeccable service.
