PBN WORKING GROUP Major Activities Cold temperature correction / compensation issues Analysis of DME coverage to support RNAV 1 Arranging trial of RNP 2 routes Improving STAR educational text in TC AIM Concept of Operations for GBAS Landing System (GLS) for low visibility operations Operations Plan Edition # 2 published June 2017 Available on website 8
PBN WORKING GROUP Good news from Transport Canada TCCA released a new Flight Test Guide for Aeroplane Instrument Rating Groups 1, 2 & 3: Candidates for the test will now have to demonstrate one RNP APCH procedure [charted in Canada as an RNAV(GNSS) approach] 9
PBN WORKING GROUP Performance-Based Aviation Action Team (CPAAT) Membership includes TC, DND, NAV CANADA, and stakeholder representatives Proposal of interest to NATA under consideration for submission: In northern Canada, amend the minimum 100 NM between destination and alternate aerodromes when GNSS is planned at both 10

ADS-B OUT MANDATE Requirement for a mandate? Scope The Aeronautical Study Implementation 16
ADS-B OUT MANDATE Aeronautical study process Terms of reference The Terms of Reference encompasses all classes of Canadian airspace proposing a phased approach: Class A, B and FL600 and Above (Class E). Class C, Class D Control Zones and Class E Control Zones. All other controlled airspace. The Aeronautical Study through consultation is drafting recommendations on implementation Final review has been completed and the report is being drafted 17
ADS-B OUT MANDATE Equipage (performance) requirements GNSS Define the positioning requirement to achieve the target surveillance levels for mandated airspace. Transponder version Define based on consultation and assessment of versions that meet the target performance for the service to be offered. Current operations accommodate the use of all three versions of ADS-B Out transponders. Required message set must be defined as well as the transponder version. Antenna placement Performance requirement to meet the service provision may result in antenna diversity. May not be a requirement in all airspace classifications, type of flight (IFR or VFR), or service provided (surveillance separation, traffic advisory, search and rescue). 18
AIREON SPACE-BASED ADS-B 19
CANADIAN DOMESTIC AIRSPACE Northern CDA Space-Based Expanded Coverage ~110 Thousand Flights/Year Central CDA ~550 Thousand Flights/Year Southern CDA ~2.3 Million Flights/Year 20
AIREON SPACE-BASED ADS-B Edmonton FIR Day 1 Readiness (Fall 2018) Where VHF DCPC is available, 5 NM ATS surveillance separation NAV CANADA Day 1 of ASEPS trial EG Fall 2018 Advanced Surveillance Enabled Procedural Separation
AIREON SPACE-BASED ADS-B Gander Domestic FIR Day 1 Readiness (Fall 2018) Where VHF DCPC is available, 5 NM ATS surveillance separation SB ADS-B future application
AIREON SPACE-BASED ADS-B Gander Oceanic FIR (March 2019) Approved Longitudinal and Lateral procedural minima using ATS surveillance. Controller/Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) is the method of communication that supports the application of these minima. Variable Mach Tactical application based on current traffic availability +/-.02 Mach Organized Track System (OTS) to be all ½ degree separation
AVIATION WEATHER SERVICES Weather Cameras Updated guidelines Phase II: 127 total sites 2018: Aklavik, Trout Lake, Gamètì, Paulatuk, Gjoa Haven, Braeburn Phase III planned for 2019 Includes 16 sites identified by NATA Laser Ceilometers Project nearing end with ten northern sites remaining Six sites in NT and NU scheduled for 2018 Yukon and Quebec already complete 24
AVIATION WEATHER SERVICES Precipitation Sensors Measured rate of fall More accurate data No manual data collection Data is recorded Installations starting soon 22 northern sites planned for 2018 25
AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES UPDATE SATvoice Deployed at Edmonton ACC in January 2018 Initiation of ground-to-air communication by controller Air-to-ground capability planned for later this year 26
ELECTRONIC PUBLICATIONS Background Customers are not satisfied with size and format of aeronautical printed products Paper printing is a risk to reliability and a limiting factor in the timeliness of information Paper publications limit ability to transition from a 56-day to 28- day publication cycle 27
ELECTRONIC PUBLICATIONS Approach being considered Continue print of large-format charts Enroute and VNC/VTA Discontinue printing (PDF still available): Canada Air Pilot (CAP) Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) Water Aerodrome Supplement (WAS) Restricted Canada Air Pilot (RCAP) CD AIP CD epub CD (under consideration) Continue to be available through apps (Jeppesen, ForeFlight, etc.) 28
ELECTRONIC PUBLICATIONS Next steps Defining concept Internal Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Consultations with stakeholders starting in August 2018 No change expected to products before 2020 29
