Friday, April 11, 2008 1:45pm 3:15pm Yucca Mountain: Critical Legal Issues Over the past decade, Yucca Mountain in Nevada has been the subject of intensive public and legal debate as the proposed site for the nation's permanent repository for high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. The U.S. Department of Energy is now working toward filing a license application for Yucca Mountain with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission no later than June 30, 2008. This panel will feature discussion of key legal issues associated with the Yucca Mountain Project. Panelists: Marta A. Michael Gillette, Associate Justice, Oregon Supreme Court, Views on Chevron from a State Perspective The Honorable W. Michael Gillette has been an Associate Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court since 1986. He served on the Court of Appeals (1977-1986) and was a presiding judge (1980-1986). He served as Solicitor General of Oregon (1973-1977) and as Chief Trial Counsel, Oregon Department of Justice (1973). He organized, directed and was Chief Counsel of the Consumer Protection Division (1971-1973). He was an Assistant Attorney General in Oregon and American Samoa (1969-1971), and a Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney (1967-1969). He was in private practice in the Portland law firm of Rives and Rogers (1966-1967). He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School (1966) and a bachelor's degree from Whitman College (1963). He teaches administrative, constitutional, and consumer law at the National Judicial College, and has taught in all three colleges at Willamette University. Hotel Information It is important to note the following policies of the : Cancellations must be received 72 hours prior to arrival date. Cancellations with less than 72 hours advance notice will result in one night s room and tax charged to the individual s credit card. There is a fee of $50 plus tax for early check-out (checking out prior to the reserved check-out date). To avoid this fee, please advise the Hotel upon check-in or before arrival as to any revised departure date. There is a charge of $30 per person, per night, for additional guests above 2 in the same room. The maximum number of guests per room is 4. Check-in time is 4:00pm; check-out time is 11am. Transportation to/from McCarran International Airport The and the Las Vegas Strip are approximately one mile from the airport. Taxi service is readily available at the airport and the hotel. Dress Code The dress code for the meeting is resort casual. The dress code for the Saturday night dinner is after five meaning at least a blazer and dress pants for men and a dressy ensemble for women.
