Jan 2019 Volume 43 Issue 1 President s Message Joy to all and a Happy New Year! By the time you read this the fun will be long over and we will be taking down decorations, cleaning up the messes and trying to decide which of our Christmas Presents to return and for what. Same ritual every year. The Christmas Luncheon at Cattleman s turned out great except we missed some folks being there: McArthur s because David went off to sell books in Arizona, Morte s because they had a conflict and the Brook s because they had it on the calendar for the wrong day! Too bad your presence would have enhanced our Joy! Kathy did a great job of pre-planning the event and taking care of the arrangements with Cattleman s and Nils came through with Poinsettias for all and a Door Prize of the Orchard Supply model of a 1931 pickup won by Roland. The gift exchange revealed all wonderful things to receive and I don t think anybody went home disappointed! Now we need to deal with the Activities Agenda for the upcoming year without the benefit of Kathy taking care of it all so capably. On Wednesday January 9 th we will have the monthly luncheon at the 833 Brick Café located, oddly enough, at 833 E Stanley Blvd, Livermore, and organized for us by the Leary s. I look forward to seeing you all there as Barbara and I leave the next day for two weeks in the British Virgin Islands to motor about and scuba dive until we can t take it anymore! Should be fun but I will miss the meeting on Thursday the 17 th and our newly installed Vice President Pete Leary will be holding the gavel in fine style. The weekend of January 26-27 will take many of us to the Turlock Swap Meet to see what treasures can be found for as little money as possible. Our meeting on Thursday February 21 st will be at Frankie Johnny and Luigi in Dublin when we celebrate our 43 rd Birthday. More information will follow as we firm up the arrangements. Bill Morte and I met with Taylor Phillips and his assistant Molly Fierer-Donaldson at the Dublin Heritage Museum to discuss our role with the Kolb Truck. Taylor is replacing Elizabeth Isles and will be our new contact. We told him we could train drivers, teach maintenance and perform some oil and lubrication procedures. We will meet with them in March of each year before the St Patrick s Day Parade to insure the truck is in top shape. We also told them to obtain use of a trailer to haul the truck to destinations over 10 miles. Recently David and I went down there to find out why the truck wouldn t start and discovered that the Bendix Gear was broken. We removed he starter motor, repaired the Bendix (a bolt attaching the spring had fallen out!) and reinstalled. We also discovered that all the spark plugs were really loose, so we re-tightened them.it helps duh! Started the truck and it ran perfect! Model A s Forever Rick
