ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide 3 3

4 4

We instantly respond to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of aid 5

Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and quality survival equipment to use while they are displaced 6

Delivering by whatever means necessary 7

And the box has its uses too 8 8

SHELTERBOX HISTORY ShelterBox was founded by Tom Henderson, a Rotarian and former Royal Navy search and rescue diver in 2000. The first consignment of 143 boxes was sent to earthquake victims in the Indian state of Gujarat in January 2001. On 26th December 2004, news came of the devastating Boxing Day Tsunami and ShelterBox faced its most significant challenge, one that would change its course forever. 9

SHELTERBOX HISTORY Since 2001, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth and dignity following over 80 disasters, in more than 50 countries 10

WHAT S IN A BOX? The cost of a box is 750, including delivery direct to those who need it. Every box bears its own unique number so as a donor you can track your box all the way to its recipient, via www.shelterboxbelux.org 11

THE SHELTERBOX TENT 12 The ShelterBoxTent is designed for ShelterBoxby Vangoand is constantly updated and modified in response to feedback from the field. This latestprototype has the strongest fabric yet to withstand some of the extreme conditionsthe tents face as well as increased ventilation for use in hot countries and the capacity for an additional internal insulation layer. 12

CHILDREN S PACK For children who have lost most if not all their possessions, these small gifts are treasured, and crucially they can act as an outlet for children who may have lost family members and witnessed traumatising events. 13

SCHOOL IN A BOX 14 Where whole communities have been displaced ShelterBoxprovides a school in a box which provides all the equipment for a teacher and 50 pupils. This helps to bring some normality and routine back to children's lives. This image was taken in Pakistan in 2008 14

Highly trained ShelterBox disaster response teams distribute boxes on the ground 15

SRT VOLUNTEERS 16 All ShelterBoxResponse Team members go through a rigorous selection and training process to ensure they are equipped to operate safely and effectively in a disaster zone. They come from all walks of life and give their time to deliver much needed aid. 16

WAREHOUSE VOLUNTEERS 17 The ShelterBoxwarehouse volunteers are key to keeping overheads low and ensuring that at least 90% of every donation goes directly to emergency aid. More than 300 volunteers, working with a small highly trained warehouse team, are on hand at any one time and will mobilise to work around the clock to pack boxes at a time of disaster. 17

WHERE WE HAVE WORKED 18 ShelterBox has now responded to over 80 disasters in more than 50 countries. 18

19 In its launch year ShelterBoxsent out 293 boxes. There was continued growth over the next few years but at the end of 2004 the Tsunami hit. Donations poured in and volunteers filled the warehouse to get as much aid as possible out. In addition to the Tsunami 2005 19

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE Our objective is to be providing emergency shelter for 500.000 people every year by 2013 20 20
