11th Narrow Gauge Convention Report Over the Easter Break the NG Convenon was held at the Carwatha College in Noble Park, Melbourne. The weather was good bright with just a li@le rain shower occasionally. The contest room was well filled with about 100 entries all of a very high standard. The Best in Show was awarded to Richard Grinyer. Richard s model is shown above. The photo contest was well represented in three categories. The clinics catered for all NG persuasions and were all very well a@ended. Over 150 a@ended the dinner on Saturday evening and the a=er dinner speaker gave a very informave talk about tourist railways in Tasmania and Victory. The Monday was devoted to layout tours, there were four top quality layouts on offer. Over 180 people a@ended the 2 day program. There were layouts in the main hall and numerous commercial stands. From an NMRA viewpoint there were four Div Super and 2 ARC members and eight MMRs. Sll under construcon, The Hon3 layout of Peter Su@on. Check my Youtube channel for the video. 3 Although I did not get to the Stoney Creek Layout, the above photo shows one of the trains that run on the On30 layout.
Narrow Gauge Convention (cont d) h@p://nyurl.com/c2fxvsf will get you to the video I took last me. Delayed Uncoupling I was demonstrang some switching at Great Falls and used a twizzle sck to uncouple a pair of flatcars. I then pushed the flat car to a locaon set out on the waybill. I was asked why the car did not re-couple when being pushed to the spot. This is the Sn3 layout of Bill Black near Puffing Billy. Check my Youtube channel for the video soon. An on-board video can be seen at h@p://nyurl.com/ cqgy4jp Image One shows that the couplers have been separated. This can be done with twizzle sck as shown or with magnet. The forth home had a special treat two layouts to view. Rod is famous for his N scale layout that can be seen at h@p://nyurl.com/c6aqtaq For this trip the a@racon was his new On30 logging layout sll under construcon I took some video but not photos I will capture some frames from the video and put on the web. Although the name Narrow Gauge will put some modellers off the visit, many of the clinics would suit all types of modellers and were all well presented. The next NG Convenon will be during Easter 2015 and will be held in Bowral NSW. Gerry Hopkins MMR. Image Two shows the couplers being pushed together while spread. As you can see they do not couple and you can push the car to its locaon. Once you pull away, the couplers return to their correct posion ready to re-couple. Using Delayed Uncoupling means you can stand at the throat of a yard to uncouple and do not have to follow the train down each track. - Gerry Hopkins MMR 4
