MAY-JUNE 2012 President s Voice Hi again Corvair folks, It's time for that monthly space filler in the news letter. My little project is coming along well. I have the condenser set-up completed and the compressor is mounted. I have contacted Vintage Air and procured an evaporator for $490. to bring the total cost of my retro-fit to approximately $1500.00. Lee Eck and I, (mostly Lee), are doing the electrical wiring of the various components. If anyone wants to tackle an AC installation, feel free to come see how we did it and take home the books I ve collected to help you through it. We took a ride in the 69 a couple of days ago, and it felt nice being in the convertible. Got a few thumbs up and " nice car, what year is it?" when we stopped for gas. I'm constantly amazed at the number of people that say they owned one when they, (fill in the the blank. The only major business that we have on the agenda is about writing Car Show Job Descriptions. This will help spread the work out evenly and keep everyone organized. I'm sure there will be Car-Related items in the mail and shows to go to. Hope to see all of the members at the meetings over the Summer, (Except July). Karen and I are looking forward to Having everyone over on Saturday, June 16th for a pool-side picnic. (See page 3) Let's keep the cars on the road and spread the good word about Corvairs. Inside this issue: Pres. OTHER ALUMINUM VEHICLES! Colorado Springs Historical Military Museum (Also Known as Dragonman s Museum as seen on an episode of Only in America with Larry The Cable Guy ) 4 Mel and Terry Bernstein moved from New Jersey many years ago to establish a one of a kind military museum about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The M-422 Mighty Mite is one of about 85 operational vehicles on display. It was made from 1960-63 by AMC and has an aluminum body and an air cooled V 4, 1.8 liter motor. (1954 prototypes had Porsche motors) There were only 3700 made and they weighed 1700 pounds to make them Helicopter-Movable. Mel is called Dragonman because he has a motorcycle that looks like a dragon and even breathes FIRE. See it @www.dragonmans.com This was what the Parachute was packed in! Pictures taken from museum video. A must see for military buffs!
