Texas Gulf Coast Unit 103 THE YELLOW ROSE NEWSLETTER February 2016 THE PRESIDENT S CORNER We had a very good January rally with a total of 43 attending with two guests. A good crowd showed up for Bingo Thursday night, the Friday night potluck was outstanding with everyone s best recipes and at the Friday s 10:00 coffee at the clubhouse we welcomed Darrin home from his trip to California for surgery. He is doing very well. Glad to have him back. The Saturday morning pancakes were a hit with peanut butter, mustard (Betty Sullin s favorite), blueberries, syrup, sausage, etc. The officers did a great job with the Saturday night dinner. Fried chicken was served with coleslaw and beans (thanks to Mary Watermann s secret recipes). To top it off a beautiful cake was served for Glennis O Neal. Glennis will be moving away after living several years here at TAHI. She will be missed. At the Saturday business meeting several items were discussed. Fred Richardson (Caravan Chairman) spoke about some trips he was planning and asked anyone with ideas to see him. Phil Lanasa (Membership Chairman) shared that we need to revitalize our membership. We have lost about 25% of our members. He shared that each of us needs to contact someone who has not been seen in a while and invite them back. James Yeates (Public Relations Chairman) has inspired a few members to contact local businesses to advertize in our newsletter. We have three advertisers so far but we need more. This will help with the cost of the newsletter/postage. Jim Lovelady is designing a handicapped ramp for the TAHI clubhouse. More to come later. Even though we didn t have a sheriff, the guilty conscious of several members helped to increase the ice cream fund. Three units (Largent, Richardson & Bagby) caravanned to IBT in Rayne, LA. There was a lot of business conducted, lots to eat, very good entertainment with visiting old/new friends. We visited several local businesses, the Tabasco Company on Avery Island, saw a lot of scenery (the back roads) and ate seafood. crawdads, shrimp, frog legs, and excellent bread pudding. I have posted the IBT s proposed changes/motions of the WBCCI Constitution & Bylaws on the bulletin board. We have also received approval from WBCCI on our change that eliminated the Third Vice President from TGCU s constitution. This is also posted on the bulletin board. On a lighter note, February s rally is Boot, Scoot & Boogie. Bean Bag Baseball, Balloon Volleyball and washers will replace Bingo on Thursday night. We all need to practice for the Region 9 games. Everyone is encouraged to wear their cowboy/cowgirl attire. Prizes will be awarded for the best cowboy hats and boots. Also, some competitive games will be played on Saturday night. Prizes are promised. Country music will be provided for those who want to cut a rug. For the ladies, Mary Watermann has planned a class on Introduction to Essential Oils which will happen Saturday afternoon at 1:00. There will be what is called a make & take. Each participate will be able to make at least three oils at a cost of $5 for each. Don t forget to sign up for Region 9 Rally in Shawnee, OK. and make your totem pole centerpieces. I will end by saying that I could use all your help this year to make it enjoyable for all. Gene
