Texas Southwest Council Taste of Adventure Leader s Guide Last Updated 9/10/2017 at 10:15 PM 1

Realizing the Adventure of Scouting!!! Dear Scouts, You are invited to Camp Sol Mayer for a Taste of Adventure. Come enjoy high adventure fun and fellowship. -Your TOA staff What is a Taste of Adventure? Taste of Adventure is at Texas Southwest Council activity that is designed to benefit TSWC Scouting in several ways: 1. Make affordable high adventure activities available to units of any size or background. 2. Provide information about National High Adventure Base programs. Philmont Scout Ranch Northern Tier Florida Sea Base The Summit Bechtel Reserve 3. Provide networking opportunities for units and individuals interested in participating in National High Adventure Base programming or in Council organized high adventure activities. 4. Provide support for the council s camps and resources. Most of the fees collected go into providing funds that keep our climbing, shooting and water sport resources available and in good shape. What should I expect if I attend a Taste of Adventure? The heart of Taste of Adventure is a Saturday schedule filled with high adventure activities that include shooting sports, water sports, climbing and rappelling. All high adventure activities will be supervised by BSA trained staff. There will always be a display of information on the National High Adventure Bases and people who are familiar with those programs who can answer your questions. When available, presentations will be made by council members who have participated in one of the National High Adventure Programs. Last Updated 9/10/2017 at 10:15 PM 2

In addition there will also be planned activities such as movies, cracker barrel, a night wilderness survival hike (patch awarded for completion), camp fires, cantina shows, chapel services, tomahawk throwing, GaGa ball, etc. Who can attend the Taste of Adventure? Taste of Adventure is intended for Boy Scout and Venturing units, but individuals that are registered with a unit can participate if accompanied by a parent or registered adults in accordance to BSA Guide to Safe Scouting guidelines. All youth attendees, must be supervised by adult unit leaders or parents at all times except when participating in scheduled high adventure activities (Climbing, Shooting sports and water sports). In other words, unit leaders are responsible for their scouts in the same way they would be at a unit campout. Unit leaders and parents are responsible for seeing that their youth get to and from supervised activities safely. Camping and Food at Taste of Adventure? Camping is done at the unit level and food and drink (other than water) will NOT be provided. Units that are camping must make reservations with the council office as they would on a normal camping trip. Units and individuals are welcome to come only for the Saturday activities, but we encourage you to come, camp and enjoy the great Scout comradery as well as other activities on Friday and Saturday night. When and Where will Taste of Adventure be held? Current Taste of adventure weekends are scheduled for Feb 23 25, 2018 Camp Sol Mayer What does it cost to attend? What is the Refund Policy?
