Disabled Aircraft Removal Procedure 3.1 General An aircraft may be immobilized for various reasons such as: flat tire, malfunction of landing gears, runway or taxiway excursion or as a result of an accident that had caused partial or total damage. There are two distinct categories of disabled aircraft: a. Aircraft without serious damage, the removal of which can be done using towing tractors. b. Aircraft with serious damages, requiring sensitive removal, special procedures and specialized equipment and personnel. During the removal operation, every effort should be made in order to avoid any further damage to the aircraft as well as to the scene of the event. The decision for the disabled aircraft removal falls under ADO s jurisdiction, who in cooperation with HCAA/AA, ATC, etc. evaluates the consequences of the disabled aircraft s position in the movement area and cares for the immediate enforcement of the respective procedures. 3.2 Legal Framework Removal of a disabled aircraft or parts thereof The responsibilities for the removal of aircraft or its parts are specified in Annex 14, Volume 1 Airports, Chapter 9.3 of ICAO Chicago Convention and in ICAO Airport Services Manual, Part 5 (Removal of Disabled Aircraft), Royal Decree 245/1970, as well as in the Aerodrome Manual".
