Choosing a summer of adventure, fun, and friendship... Camp Pinnacle is a co-ed, residential summer camp located in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Hendersonville, North Carolina. We host campers each summer from more than 40 states and 16 countries. Our goal is to create a fun outdoor experience for children ages 7-15. We offer twoand three-week sessions with an option for campers to combine sessions for a four- or five-week experience. Maximum session size at Camp Pinnacle is 190 campers - approximately 100 boys and 90 girls. A typical cabin group consists of 8-10 campers of similar age and grade with two counselors. Overall, we maintain a 1:3 counselor-to-camper ratio.

our mission: To ensure the safest, most substantive and most exciting summer camp experience for young people through our personal attention to every camper, our caring and our competence. Summer goals: Safety, safety, safety Have fun! Create a "family-like" community. Increase personal growth. Instill an appreciation of nature. Gain an appreciation of life without technology.

Activities: All of our campers enjoy trips to Pisgah National Forest (35 minutes from camp) and Dupont National Forest (15 minutes from camp). All of our campers will have the opportunity to go rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, and white water rafting in the beautiful scenery of Western North Carolina. Campers also participate in more than 40 different camp activities. All our activities are scheduled during the first week of camp to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to try everything that camp has to offer. On the weekends, campers are able to choose their own activities so they can improve skills in the activities which interest them most. During the second and third weeks of camp, campers choose what activities they would like to participate in as a cabin group. Our oldest campers (grades 7-9) are also able to choose from a variety of off-camp adventures which include activities such as a canoe overnight, advanced climbing or mountain biking trips.

Staff at A glance: Minimum age: 18 Average age: 21 More than half of our staff return every year. Our staff attend colleges such as Sewanee, Clemson, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, University of California, Vanderbilt, and Brown University. Our staff are from every corner of the world, including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Poland and the United Kingdom. All have medical certifications such as Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, and some are EMTs.

General Job descriptions Cabin Counselors: Live in a cabin with 8-10 campers as their mentor, role model, hero, and friend. Cabin counselors are responsible for the physical and emotional safety, comfort, hygiene, social interaction, program participation and overall well-being of their campers. We have two different kinds of cabin counselors; a general counselor and an activity counselor. General counselors are also responsible for their cabin group during cabin activity periods. They participate in all activities and monitor camper participation and enjoyment. General counselors will be trained in a specific activity area and will teach activities on weekends and during the second and third weeks of camp. Activity counselors are also responsible for creating a curriculum, progression, and teaching a fun, safe activity for campers.

Trip leaders: Out-of-cabin staff who lead outdoor activities and support our cabin counselors. Trip leaders help with off-camp logistics, driving, and lead hiking, biking, canoeing, and climbing trips. They are also responsible for supporting camp through their participation in evening programs, special events, cabin-clean ups, putting campers to bed, and meals. Activity heads and division leaders: Activity Heads facilitate camp activities and support activity-specific counselors in their program areas. Division leaders support all counselors, help care for campers, and assist in planning special events and evening programs. Both activity heads and division leaders may be asked to support camp through tasks such as cleaning, packing away, basic maintenance, and organizing special programming. Camp Nurse: Live in the health center with another nurse. They are on-call for campers and staff 24/7 with the support of our camp doctor and camp directors. They are responsible for administering all medication and first aid to campers and staff. They are also responsible for preparing medications to go on all day and overnight trips with campers. Nurses are encouraged to participate in special events as it helps them become a closer part of the camp community.

what you can expect from us delicious food: We provide 3 meals a day, 7 days a week for our staff. We are able to accommodate vegetarian, gluten free, and dairy free diets. Our food is home cooked with fresh locally sourced ingredients by our beloved chef Richard. We pride ourselves on having healthy, nutritious, and delicious food for our campers and staff. Ask anyone, they will tell you that at Camp Pinnacle you are well fed and that the food is delicious.

A place to live: All staff are provided with a clean, comfortable place to sleep while they are employed at camp. Don t worry about having to pay rent this summer, we will take good care of you! We also provide a full laundry service once a week. Clothes are washed in hypoallergenic detergent, dried, folded, and returned to you. We do this at no extra cost to our staff. salary: First year staff begin with a base salary of $235 a week. Each staff member s salary is based on age, education, previous experience, and the skills and certifications you bring to camp. First time counselors coming through an international staffing agency can expect to get paid the wage their agency has agreed on. Staff are paid $200 for attending Orientation and an additional $100 for attending Trip Leader Orientation. Staff are not paid for their training before Orientation week as Camp Pinnacle is paying for the certifications you will be obtaining. Pre-camp cleaning and maintenance crew will be paid a set amount depending on their arrival date. certifications: Most staff leave with one or more fully paid certification from a nationally recognized organization. We are fully committed to stacking our team with the most qualified and trained staff possible. Camp Pinnacle has provided a heavily subsidized rate (over 50%) for a variety of addtional certifications.

generous time off: We know how important it is to recharge and take care of yourself. We work hard to give staff as much time off as our programming will allow. Staff will have a 50 minute period on most days during the week to relax at camp or in the staff lounge. Staff will also be able to sign up for a lunch-off each session to leave camp and grab a bite to eat in town, or grab some food from the dining hall and relax in the staff lounge courtyard. Staff members also have a 16-hour day off a week in addition to a 24-hour day off between each session, both of which always fall on a weekend. professional development: Starting with the interview process, to Staff Orientation, to end of session feedback, the skills you learn while working at Camp Pinnacle are invaluable. Staff not only learn how to work with children in a professional capacity but increase their communication, time management, organization and conflict resolution skills. Studies show that the nature of the Camp Pinnacle experience makes young minds inherently more receptive to learning. We closely follow and align our program with the research of the Partnership for 21st Century Learning (P21) organization, leaders in education and innovation (at companies like Apple, Google, and Dell) who believe in focusing on non-cognitive and social skills such as communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and social achievement, leadership, self-management, resilience, and optimism.

what we expect from you professionalism: We hold our staff to a high standard when it comes to professionalism. We want you to leave camp with a clear understanding of what it means to be a member of a professional environment. We expect staff to be punctual, appropriate with all communication, dress in a professional manner, and put the campers first at all times.

support our drug, alcohol, and tobacco policies: The possession or use of nonprescription drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products (including any kind of e-cigarette) on camp property or during off camp activities is strictly prohibited. In keeping with NC state law, the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors (under 21) is prohibited. Staff are not to return to camp under the influence of alcohol or drugs at any time. Support our technology policy: Camp Pinnacle is a fully connected environment We are committed not to the volume of people with who we can stay in touch, but to the depth of connection we can establish with those in our midst. Cell phones, personal laptops, and other electronics must be kept in the staff lounge, and are only available for use after lights-out or during scheduled time off. Electronics, such as laptops, ipads, and cell phones, are not allowed in cabin areas. This includes staff who do not live with campers.
