A mighty trading city dating back to the 1500s, and the seat of one of history s most powerful trading companies the Dutch East India Company, Hoorn is a wonderful city filled with lots of old-world charm. After lunch, enjoy a guided casual stroll through this old city, and see the 17 th -century town centre, dotted by small shops and cafés, as well as the magnificent horn-shaped harbour (for which the town was named) featuring the beautiful Hoofdtoren (the Head Tower), a defensive tower from the 16 th century. Overnight Hoorn Day 4 Sailing the IJsselmeer: Enkhuizen & Urk Visit the sailboat capital of Europe this morning in Enkhuizen, and discover one of the Netherlands best open-air museums for a look into its incredible past. The Zuiderzee Museum revives the stories of people who once lived on the shores of the Zuiderzee before the Afsluitdijk (IJsselmeer Barrier Dam) changed the sea into the IJsselmeer in 1932. During lunch, we cruise across the impressive IJsselmeer for a leisurely afternoon in Urk, a picturesque fishing village with a unique history and culture that is at your freedom to explore. Overnight Urk Day 5 Hanseatic Cities of Zutphen & Doesburg Enjoy a leisurely day cruising on one of the Netherlands most scenic rivers, the Ijssel. Our first stop will be in Zutphen, a gorgeous 11 th -century Hanseatic city with many historic and cultural highlights and over 450 national monuments. Visit the historic city centre which seems to be untouched by time and beckoning to be discovered before a late afternoon cruise to Doesburg. The most important fortified city in Holland for a long time, Doesburg s former prosperity is still visible in its beautifully restored centre and fortifications. Day 6 Arnhem Our morning cruise take us to Arnhem, a city made famous during WWII and the infamous battle of Market Garden. Enjoy some free time in this wonderful city, and stroll through one of its many parks, visit a museum, meander the streets of the city centre, or relax in a picturesque square. Savour a delicious lunch on board the MS Crucevita, and delight in a relaxing afternoon of river cruising as we head for Maastricht. Be sure to take in the superb 360 views from the Sun Deck where you won t miss a thing! Overnight Roermond Day 7 Maastricht Located on the banks of the Maas River, Maastricht is a vibrant city with a deep history and culture. We arrive just after lunch and embark on a guided walking tour of this enchanting city sitting on the southern tip of the Netherlands. With a cobbled old town and medieval-era architecture, Maastricht offers new surprises around every corner including the Gothic-style church Sint Janskerk, and the Romanesque Basilica of St. Servatius, which houses a significant collection of religious art. The rest of the afternoon and evening are at your leisure to explore this one-of-a-kind city. Overnight Maastricht Day 8 Brussels, the 1000-Year-Old Capital of the Kingdom of Belgium Today, join our local guides as we tour Brussels, an ancient yet modern city and home of the European Commission. They will take us on a walking tour through the quaint avenues of Belgium s capital to the Grand Place, possibly Europe s most beautiful Market Square. Surrounded by opulent guild halls and anchored by the magnificent City Hall and the spectacular Maison du Roi (the King s House ), this UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its decorative and aesthetic wealth. Lunch is on us, however you get to choose the location, followed by time on your own to wander and discover this fascinating city. We rejoin the MS Crucevita by mid-afternoon and sail on to Antwerp. Overnight Antwerp Day 9 Antwerp & the Masterpieces of Rubens We embark on a morning walking tour of Antwerp, where our local guides will share this beautiful city with us, to discover the works of Peter Paul Rubens and the Cathedral of Our Lady. Sitting on the River Scheldt, Antwerp is Belgium s biggest port and second-largest city after Brussels. It offers a vibrant fashion and entertainment scene, as well as surprising contrasts, both in its architecture and culture. Free time this afternoon allows you to explore this charming city at your leisure. Visit the Museum Aan de Stroom with its war memorial to the Canadian soldiers of WWII, admire the works of Rubens in his 17 th -century home, or wander down the cobbled lanes lined by cozy cafés and quaint bars. Don t forget to try the local beer! Overnight Antwerp Day 10 Medieval Bruges Bruges, Belgium s most beautiful jewel, is known for winding canals, cobbled streets, and medieval buildings. Its oval-shaped, historic city centre features a number of market squares lined by splendid churches, whitewashed houses, and soaring towers including the iconic Belfry of Bruges, a medieval bell tower overlooking Market Square. Our all-day excursion includes a guided walking tour as well as a boat cruise through the beautiful canals of possibly one of Europe s best-preserved medieval cities. Day 11 Middelburg & Veere, Netherlands Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland, boasts one Europe s most beautiful town halls. Today, a rich blend of shops, cafés, restaurants, and events make this a lively place that enchants both visitors and locals alike. Our local guides will immerse us in the unique culture of this town during our walking tour. Later, enjoy a scenic cruise to Veere, a picture-perfect town with a busy yacht harbour, arriving in time to explore with a walking tour of this former fishing village which dates back to the early 16 th century. Overnight Veere Day 12 Delta Expo, the Masters of Engineering The MS Crucevita arrives at the Delta Expo this morning for our tour. The Delta Works remains one of the most significant and largest engineering accomplishments in the world lending it the designation as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. During lunch, enjoy a scenic cruise to the picturesque town of Zierikzee, a wealthy town during the Middle Ages with a beautiful port and a glorious past, evident in the many historical monuments. This afternoon, enjoy some free time in Gouda, most famously known for its cheese. Visit the 15 th -century Old Town Hall, a magnificent feat of Gothic building, taste the famous stroopwafels, a delicious syrup waffle treat, or discover the popular Gouda candles, made in the country s largest candle factory. A very scenic cruise during dinner takes us to Rotterdam. Overnight Rotterdam Day 15 Rotterdam Begin the day with a walking tour of Rotterdam, the Netherlands second-largest metropolis and Europe s busiest port. With a deep maritime tradition and seafaring history, this impressive city, nearly leveled by WWII bombers, has remained resilient and been rebuilt with bold and modern architecture. MS Crucevita Designed with the old world charm of a sleek yacht, with sumptuous textile, leather furniture and dark wood, the MS Crucevita is one of the most elegant and impressive river cruise vessels of Western Europe.
