Local Judo Girl Goes National One of our own Judo participants, 10 year old Tatiana Irizarri, second from the left, of Uncasville competed in the USA Judo Open Championships on July 28th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is the top Judo tournament for juniors in the USA. There were over 800 competitors from 20 countries fighting for gold in their division as well as points for the USA Junior point roster. In the 33-38KG intermediate female division she won all her matches by ippon, (Full point), taking home the gold and moving into 5th place on the National point roster. She is a member of the New London County Judo Club working out in the Montville Parks and Recreation program. Tatianna only has one or two workouts a week and defeated girls that work out 5 and 6 times a week. This alone is a testament to her and her coach Sharon Hunt, fourth degree black belt and certified National Coach. Tatianna also gives back to Judo by being a helper in our beginner classes.
