CABELA S CLASSIC CAR SHOW EAST HARTFORD By Sandy Hague Cabela s show was sponsored by the Over The Hill Gang and the cars were from all areas of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. A huge variety of cars filled the parking lot - close to 400 cars attended. The No Rules Corvette Club filled two long rows and there were other Corvettes scattered throughout the show. Don Byrne brought his attentiongetting 1995 Pace Car, Steve Ludwig had his award winning C4, and Jack and I displayed our 2015 Stingray convertible. We were the only members of Club Corvette of CT who attended. Too bad other members did not make the trip because it was really a fun day! A wide array of cars and trucks from Bentley, Ferrari, Mercedes, Model T, Chevy, Corvette, Ford, BMW, Audi, Tesla, Buick, Oldsmobile, and VW were on display. Music was playing and tents had car stuff to buy and those who attended wandered the rows looking over the selection. Also, there were some cars for sale. Page16 Cabela s sold food and beverages and, since it was so awfully hot, going inside the store to cool down was a respite.

Page17 For the $10 admission you received a ticket for a free NAPA bucket filled with all kinds of goodies plus a $10 coupon toward a purchase at Cabela s. Wayne Carini was the featured guest and he chatted with anyone who had car questions.

Page18 CLUB CORVETTE OF RHODE ISLAND SHOW CORVETTES BY THE SEA By Dennis Krajewski On Sunday August 5 th, members of Club Corvette of Ct. met at the Madison I-95 rest stop to travel to the Scalabrini Villa Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in North Kingstown, R.I. This is the home for the Corvette Club of Rhode Island s 48 th annual Corvettes by the Sea car show. The trip up was great, although some of our members said I was going a little slow!!! SLOW. I thought I was doing 65 to 75 MPH all the way up! OMG I m turning into Ron Goldberg!!! Oh well, we did get up there! We entered the grounds and went down a long, wooded driveway before arriving at the car display fields. While I was going down that drive I saw a beautiful deer standing right by the side of the road. I stopped, thinking she was going to run across the road, but she just stood there. It was as if she was waiting to watch all our Vettes go by. We all drove by her slowly and she just stood there, about two feet from our cars. Once inside, we all parked together and, thank God, there were a couple of shade trees right by our cars. It was HOT!!! We unpacked our chairs and set them up under the trees. The gathering of Corvettes was incredible. I understand they had 250 cars. We all had a wonderful time looking at the cars, enjoying the day, and talking in the cool shade of those glorious trees. Kudos to the officers and members of The Corvette Club of Rhode Island for a great gathering and arranging for a great time with great friends.

CORVETTE NAMED THE MOST AMERICAN CAR YOU CAN BUY July 30, 2018 Corvette has long had the nickname America s Sports Car and according to the annual Kogod Made in America Auto Index, it is also the Most American made vehicle. With a top score of 83.5 points, Corvette earned bragging rights by racking up the points within seven criteria including profit margin; labor; research and development; inventory, capital and other expenses; engine; transmission; and body, chassis and electrical components. The research is conducted by the Center for Automotive Research to determine total domestic content. A total of 24 vehicles finished in the top 10 due to several tie scores, and several vehicle variants. Of those, General Motors had a total of seven vehicles in the top 10 including the Chevrolet Volt, Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Camaro and GMC Acadia. The index ranked a total of 544 vehicles and was created in 2013 by Frank DuBois, associate professor of international business at the Kogod School of Business at American University in Washington, D.C. According to DuBois, It is likely that no vehicle has been truly 100% American since the Model T. And you could argue that some of those parts were mined or manufactured out of the country. DuBois said the index provides the best current estimation of domestic content for U.S. sold vehicles. The Criteria 1. Profit Margin This was measured based on the location of an automaker s headquarters. If an automaker s global headquarters is located in the US, the model receives a 6. If it is not, it receives a 0. The assumption here is that (on average), 6% of a vehicle s value is profit margin, so if it is a U.S. automaker, the profits remain in the country. 2. Labor This category considers where the car is assembled. If a model is assembled in the US, it receives a 6. If not, the model receives a 0. We assume that approximately 6% of the vehicle s value is labor content. 3. Research and Development (R&D) This category looks at the location of a car s R&D activities. If the model is a product of a US company, it receives a 6. If it is the product of a foreign company but is assembled in the U.S. it receives a 3; if it is a foreign import it receives a 1. 4. Inventory, Capital and other expenses If assembly occurs in the US, the model receives an 11; if not, it receives a 0. 5. Engine If the engine is produced in the US, the model receives a 14; if not it receives a 0. 6. Transmission If the transmission is produced in the US, the model receives a 7; if not it receives a 0. 7. Page38 News from Club Clothing The wind shirts that I ordered after last month s meeting were available on Monday, just in time for the June meeting. It appeared to me that all the members who ordered a wind shirt were delighted with it. The only bad news is the color Sand is on backorder and will not be available until October. The other 4 colors (Red, Royal Blue, Navy Blue and Black) are available. I can say now that I have seen all the colors and they are all very nice. The following photos show the embroidery on Royal, Red and Black. I neglected to get a picture of Navy. ROYAL RED BLACK The order for the wind shirts is attached. The price is $35.00 for Small through XL and $38.00 for XXL. Our Vendor, Galli, will be coming to our Corvette show and has offered to bring with them any duffle bags ordered by members without the shipping charge. The duffle bags cost $45.00 and must be pre-paid. If you would like a duffle bag, please send me the attached order form plus a $45.00 check for each bag. I am going to place the order with Galli no later than Tuesday, June 12th. Please e-mail me at walt.kaercher@comcast.net or call my cell (203) 430-4366 with any questions. Thanks! Walt Kaercher
