Introduction PhD THESIS El Urban Sprawl en la Costa Española: El Impacto de las Viviendas de Segunda Residencia y los Complejos Turísticos. As part of the projects developed by the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya through its research centre of Land Policy and Valuations. Development of a platform for the prospective modeling of processes of urbanization in coastal areas : cuyo objetivo consiste en la elaboración de una Plataforma que permita evaluar los procesos de urbanización llevados a cabo en la costa ibérica, así como anticipar el desarrollo y caracterización de los mismos en un futuro más o menos cercano (1956 al 2006).

CONCLUSIONS Urban changes help us understand the growth patterns on the coast. Terrain surface model analysis helps to understand the location of urban growth. NUTS3 analysis hides some important urban changes as detected in a NUTS4 analysis, especially in the coastal areas. Administrative areas hides the true problem of real potential of the remaining land. Highly artificialized municipalities create a strong pressure where there is less potential area.
