Guest Speaker This Week : Aleem Ali from Welcome to Australia Aleem was born in Australia and brought up in Redcliffe, of a Fiji father and Australian mother but obviously passionate about the positive aspects of immigration and multicultural Australia. Gold Coast Ramble Great slide show of the facts and figures of immigration to Australia over the years. Generally immigration has a net social and economic benefit to Australia and our economy, in fact contributing 1.6trillion to Australia s GDP. However while Australia is a multicultural success story, in recent years, the Social Cohesion Index is in decline due to deteriorating views and perspectives on immigration. Put down to a narrative of fear by some of the media and politicians. Hat Day The response is migrants become more insular as communities are less welcoming.
Once again another speaker was impressed with Rotaries four way test. Aleem works for a not for profit organisation Welcome to Australia which encompasses many aspects to improve the lives and assimilation of immigrants to Australia.
