Adult Leaders & Parents, Thank you for considering Camp Hiawatha, the place where Scouting adventures are ignited. We take great pride in our work at Camp Hiawatha and we wish to provide every one of you with the best experience possible. This guide is intended to assist all leaders and parents that are attending camp. It is important to read through this entire guide to be aware of this year's amazing resident camp program. At Hiawatha, we pride ourselves on our ability to refresh and renew our program every year, while continuing to offer the classic outdoor experiences. Again, this summer we will provide an experience that will be filled with fun and adventure. Let your imagination run wild during your stay, and in the process earn Cub Scout advancement along the way. This guide contains most of the details regarding resident camp. The Point of Contact (POC) and unit leadership should carefully read this guide to ensure the unit is prepared for their resident camp experience. If you look through this guide and find that there is information missing, please share that with our team. We are always looking for suggestions to improve for next year. The Bay-Lakes Council appreciates your continued support of the Scouting program and sincerely hopes that this year s resident camp will be one of your greatest Scouting experiences. We look forward to seeing you at Camp Hiawatha! Warm Regards, Mark Rice Brendan Martson Bryan Combs Camp Director Vice President of Program Council Experience Manager Camp Hiawatha Bay-Lakes Council, BSA Bay-Lakes Council, BSA 2018 Program Guide Camp Hiawatha 3

The theme for our 2018 Cub Scout & Webelos resident camps is Passport to Adventure. The Passport to Adventure is a global travel theme that will be applied to buildings, program, décor, and the food experience. We re excited to host you this summer as we explore the world around us. Pack your bags and prepare for a whirlwind adventure! 2018 Program Guide Camp Hiawatha 4

Assigned Program Areas will be Handicraft, Ecology, Scout Craft and Commissioner s Service. This is where you will work on your Adventure requirements. Open Program areas will include Archery, BB guns, Waterfront, Trading Post and Hike. The Assigned Program Areas will rotate as in years past. Open program areas will be one hour each and you will need to sign up for those in the Leader Lounge to avoid congestion in any one area. We are going to limit the Open Program areas to no more than 30 Cubs at one time, so as not to overwhelm the staff. IF your Patrol would rather work on an Adventure you have started, and want to finish before you leave Camp, you will need to make arrangements with the staff in what Assigned area to meet with you in their area, or some other pre-arranged location. The open Program periods are also a great way to get in those one and three-mile hikes needed to complete the Adventures offered this year. The 3-mile hike MAY require two consecutive hours of Open Program Time. All campers will have the opportunity to participate in learning about the safety and use of BB guns and archery equipment. The camp s shooting sports area is ideal for campers and will allow maximum of eight persons to shoot at any one given time. Instructors, whose number one job is camper safety, staff the ranges. Leaders may be asked to assist with safety and proper handling of the equipment in the area. Camp will provide all equipment at the shooting sports ranges. Please do not bring your own. The Waterfront area of camp is one of the most popular. It offers swimming, water games, a sandy beach, row boating (Webelos), and swimming and boating safety instruction. The Aquatics supervisor is a nationally certified instructor and emphasizes safety in and around the water always. Nature hikes, plant and animal identification and the opportunity to explore a natural and undisturbed bog, are just some of the activities and programs in this area. Nature exploration occurs as part of the program conducted within the nature area. 2018 Program Guide Camp Hiawatha 7
