Lipo Batteries: We will be putting out some literature on lipo battery care and safety will be coming. Field Marshal: Nothing to report. Old Business: Lease: Darren met with the CO and briefed him on our club. This sent things at the base in to a frenzy. The real estate office was a little taken aback by Darren going to the CO. When he got a meeting request, he gathered info from staff on who we are. Prior to the meeting, the CO had no idea of our existence. All base personnel that deal with us briefed the CO and their experiences with us. They toured the site, our feedback was very positive. No one had any real complaints. It was expressed to the CO that we do not pose any security threats. The negative feedback came strictly from base real estate. The CO has turned to his staff to figure out a way to keep us. Darren explained that we are a community service organization and collaterally fly at the field. The other piece is the civilian membership. It was conveyed to the base that if we lose them, we lose the ability to be a community service organization. It was made clear that we want to be more than just a flying club and are a quality of life group. He was very thankful for the time we spent talking about the club. The CO is going to get us under the blanket of MCCS. They handle many facilities; we would be one of them. There will most likely not be major changes, in general we will continue operate the same. Adopt a plane day was successful. The club cleaned up a T-34, it turned out well, the first Monday after the meeting will be the maintenance day. It was suggested that we also clean planes that will be part of the open cockpit day. Diamond rent vs buy porta-potty, it is more economical to own it, the pay off time is 7 months. We are going to look in to purchasing a handicap accessible unit. A motion was made to purchase a handicap unit with a hand wash and approved. Events: Pylon racing 6/16, 9/15. Rotors over Miramar July 13-14, we are not looking to add night flying or camping this year. We do not want to raise any concerns with the base at this time.
July 27 Flights of Fancy Pattern Contest in August Aug 24-25 E-fest at Aliant university. Indoor and outdoor, partially at MRCF. Oct 11-13 All electric heli events at SDSEF. Nov 9 Veterans Day fly in. Dec 12 Toys for tots. New Business: AMA will be granting us a five year Gold Leader Award. Aaron Dobbs who runs the program, there are 1700 clubs in AMA, there are only 47 clubs that have Gold Status. A really nice patch comes with it along with a plaque. July 20 th will be the association swap meet in Chula Vista. Thank you Jerry for getting the Field Grant, we received the check for $780. Trivia: New member s AMA number is seven digits. Show and Tell: Darren brought a Hex copter from DW Foamies. Mike Morgan has a company called multi rotor parts and produces this model. These have taken off over the last two years. The good is it is a new aspect, in the wrong hands; it brings bad publicity due to its autonomous capability. It flew on Saturday on, he turned off its transmitter, and it flew back to the field, landed and shut itself down. It runs on 3s with a 10-minute flight. Cost is $800-$900 with GPS capability. The advantages of more rotors are that you can limp back when motors go out. Meeting Adjourned: 2010
