Premier Detectors Swabs User Guide Outer Pack (Where applicable for Sterile Products only) To be opened by the circulating (non scrubbed) practitioner 01 02 03 04 STERILE ZONE DO NOT TOUCH STERILE ZONE DO NOT TOUCH 1. The integrity of the pack should be checked prior to use as the swabs should not be used if the outer pack is damaged or is past its expiry date. 2. The outer pack should be peeled open from the top edge of the pack. 3. The area beyond the opaque line on the inner surface of the outer pack should not be touched, to maintain sterility of the inner pack.. The outer pack should be disgarded in the appropriate waste receptable. Inner Sterile Pack To be opened only by the scrubbed practitioner 0 6. The paper wrap should be unfolded to reveal the swabs. 7. The paper wrap should be disgarded in the appropriate clinical waste receptacle. 08. Premier Detectors X-Ray detectable swabs should not be cut, altered or opened out as this will expose raw edges of the gauze and may cause the X-Ray detectable line to be exposed on the surface of the gauze. 06 8. The red tie cord should be removed from each bundle of tied swabs, when appropriate for the counting procedure, and retained as an additional check for swab number accuracy 1. 4. The inner pack should be presented to the scrubbed practitioner in line with professional guidelines and Trust policy. 07 9. The swabs should be individually checked, counted and recorded as per professional guidelines (for example AFPP) and according to hospital policy for swab counts. 09 11. Following the appropriate counting procedure, used swabs should be disgarded in the appropriate clinical waste receptacle.
