Cherry Blossoms at The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens & Old Westbury Gardens Our day begins with a visit to The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, consistently rated as one of the finest gardens in the USA. Spring is in the air and with it comes a rainbow of colors throughout the 52-acres of these gardens. Now is a special time of year to stroll these gardens since most of the cherry trees, magnolias, lilacs, wildflowers, orchids, and rhododendrons should be in or near bloom. Make sure to explore the Cherry Esplanade and Cherry Walk in the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden and view the bonsai museum in the Steinhardt Conservatory. After time to stroll through the gardens and browse in the shops, we enjoy lunch on our own in the garden s café. From here we travel to nearby Old Westbury Gardens. The 2018 Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival Independence Hall ~ Liberty Bell ~ Congress Hall ~ Reading Terminal Market Our day begins with a tour of Independence Hall, where the Continental Congress wrote the United States Constitution and signed the Declaration of Independence. We also tour Congress Hall where George Washington handed the presidency over to John Adams. The Liberty Bell is a National Treasure, which we are able to view before lunch. Lunch is on our own in the Reading Terminal Market (1893), one of America s largest and oldest public markets. It offers a wide array of restaurants and shops. This afternoon, we join in the festivities of the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival, an annual event that takes place in this charming neighborhood. It features fashion, arts, culinary demonstrations, street cafes, live music and entertainment, family fun, beer and cocktail samplings and about 100 booths of various vendors. Spirit of New York Lunch Cruise During The Parade of Ships l ; l Ahoy! Fleet Week NYC is a week long celebration in New York City, which honors the members of the United States Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. Every year this party kicks off with the Parade of Ships. This spectacular flotilla of visiting vessels and tall ships that cruise along the Hudson River takes place prior to them docking in Manhattan and nearby boroughs. This afternoon, we are treated to a two-hour luncheon (buffet) cruise while the Parade of Ships takes place. From the comfort of our ship, we will view the ships as they cruise past us. Long Island Nature Boat Cruise ~ Historic Stony Brook ~ Three Village Inn Leave the driving to us as we travel to the North Shore of Long Island to the charming town of Stony Brook. Here there is time to stroll its streets, browse in its many unique stores and explore the waterfront area. This afternoon we board a nature cruise in the beautiful wetlands filled with birds and marine life near Stony Brook Harbor. A naturalist accompanies us on our 1 1/2-hour nature cruise and provides us with the history, geology and ecology of the area of West Meadow Creek. Three Islands in a Day ~ Governors Island - Staten Island ~ Empire Outlets l This morning we visit Governors Island, an historic park, recreation and festival area. We arrive via a short ferry ride from lower Manhattan. Here we are free to enjoy this island on our own. Things to do are a ranger-led walking tour, visit the historic fort, the Admiral s House and other buildings that contain current exhibits. A leisurely stroll around the island (approximately 2.5 miles) affords beautiful views of the surrounding area. Once back in Manhattan, we walk next door to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Once on the ferry, we take in beautiful views of NYC. The ferry docks at the brand new Empire Outlets, a world-class retail destination and New York City's first and only shopping outlet.
