February 2017 Warioto Wings V olume 2 I s s u e 2 P a ge 2 A Word from your Chapter Director Hello Chapter Q and friends, we started our year with our meet and greet and eat on the first. We didn t go riding after due to rainy weather but we had fun anyway. First off I would like to introduce to you, our newest members to chapter Q, Gilbert and Doreen Soucy. And, our new chapter couple for 2017 Dennis and Jan Peterson. And wait we are not done there. Our new MEC officers, Tom and Pat Murray. Welcome on board and I m sure they will be a great addition to our chapter. We will be starting our St. Jude s canister drive this gathering until August. At that time, all canisters must be turned in so we can take the money to St. Jude s in September. As you might know we had a St. Jude s fund raiser at Rural King in December just before Christmas. We raised 403 dollars and change to start things for this year. Well done everyone and thank you. Now for the things that are happening in February, On the 2 nd we have a dinner ride to WingStop, 110 Needmore Rd. in Clarksville and on the 16 th is El Toro s, 1200 Fort Campbell Blvd. Now for something to think about. There is going to be a CPR class on the 4 th of March. The location is Hillcrest Methodist Church, 5112 Raywood Lane Nashville, 8am $25.00 per person. If you would like to go, please contact me as soon as possible. If anyone would like to go on a ride any weekend this month or any month and have a place in mind, please let us know and we will try to get it done. Just a reminder, the chapter will be having another lawn sale this year, April 1 st. If you have anything to donate please do so this is to help raise money for the chapter and if we do good St. Jude s also. Thank you everyone. Cindy and Al Bidwell Chapter Q Directors
February 2017 Warioto Wings Volume 2 Issue 2 P a ge 3 A Word from your Assistant Chapter Director: Hello--Hope everyone is having a great 2017! When the staff met this month we all agreed to commit to at least one chapter sponsored ride every month, We will of course have more than one ride per month but we wanted the chapter members to be able to lock down their calendars now for the rest of the year. Soooooo, the third Saturday of each month, starting in April, there will be a chapter ride. That first ride will be to Moonlight BBQ. We will leave from Exit 1 at 10 AM on the 15th of April. It's a 2-3 hour ride and we will plan on taking the long way home. This being the first ride of the year we will not try and go all day but most Saturday rides will be planned for all day. I will need your input for other rides that we can plan for this 3rd Saturday each month, so let me hear from you! We also have Spring Fling in April and are planning to leave Clarksville the morning of Thursday 20 April for the ride up. We are very flexible on the time we will leave and will decide after I get everyone's input on the best time for them. Be SAFE and we will see you on the road! Dave Jones Assistant Chapter Director Remember your ride coordinator needs your help planning rides. Dave Jones could use your ideas as to where to go. Also let him know how you like to ride, ie; what area, how long you like to ride, what day you like to ride, what time of day you like to ride.
February 2017 Wa ri o to Wi n g s V olume 2 I s s u e 2 P a ge 4 Chapter Educator Rider Education What Is It? What Is It? The Rider s Education Program was implemented with the idea to reduce injuries and save lives through education (or awareness) and commitment. There are 4 levels of commitment with the Rider Education Program. * Level I Safety by Commitment: Level I is designed to encourage safe motorcycle operation. No matter what your riding skills are, you can make a commitment to ride your motorcycle safely for the rest of your life. Once you commit to safety, it s for keeps. * Level 2 Safety by Education: This is where the education part of the Program comes in. Throughout the year our Chapter offers opportunities to go to CPR/First Aid training and Experienced Riders Courses, plus numerous seminars that are available at all rallies. In addition, there is a segment of safety in every newsletter and at Chapter meetings. To be eligible for Level 2 the rider must attend an ARC class and the co-rider needs only to attend a co-rider seminar. To maintain Level 2 status, you must attend an approved riding (or Co-Rider s) course every 3 years. By doing so you will keep up with current riding techniques and keep your skills honed. * Level 3 Safety by Preparedness: A current CPR or First Aid card is required for Level 3. Since accidents will and do occur, it is important that we be prepared to lend aid when we can. Level 3 is designed to deal with such circumstances through First Aid and CPR training. Preparedness means that if someone is in need of CPR or First Aid you can do it. Members are encouraged to wear protective clothing and carry a first aid kit on the bike. * Level 4 Safety by Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness: This level requires the ultimate commitment and those who do commit become shining examples for other members. This level requires that you be at Level 3 for a minimum of 1 year, be current in CPR and First Aid, have ridden a bike at least 25,000 safe miles, in addition to being committed to wearing proper riding gear and riding safe. This level carries an obligation to safety like no other. What s In It For Me? Life, and a safer more enjoyable ride. The Co-Rider will have the confidence to handle a motorcycle in a crisis situation, the Rider will have the confidence to make those split second maneuvers, and both of you will have the confidence to come to the rescue of someone or save a life. Whether you re a new member or have been in the Chapter for awhile, be a part of Rider s Education. Make the commitment, get the training, and feel the pride of what the GWRRA Rider Education Program really means. Safety Always, Mickey Turner Chapter Educator

February 2017 Warioto Wings Vo lu me 2 Issue 2 Page 10 Here are some things to remember, cut them out and put them on your refrigerator or bulletin board to help you remember. The next big thing to look forward to is the District s Spring Fling. This will be held at the same location as last year in Pigeon Forge. Now is the time to sign up and make a room reservation. There will be a Talent contest on Friday night with cash prizes. The Theme is THE FABULOUS FIFTIES so dig out something from the Fifties and lets have some fun. Dave will set up a ride to get us there and there will be guided rides over the weekend, they promise to ride places you have never been. Your news letter editor could use some pictures. These can be things you ve done with the chapter or things on your own every one loves pictures of your travels or camping trips or just day rides so please help me out. You can e-mail them to me tnchapterq@gmail.com. Watch the new year for some big changes. The staff hopes to make some changes and maybe recruit some new members The third Saturday of each month we are going to try to have a ride planned for the Chapter. This maybe a day long ride or if you want we could do an overnight ride. The main purpose is to get out and ride and enjoy each others company. Another part of this ride will be to invite the non-members to ride with us and show them how we ride and let them know a little about our chapter. So if you have friends that ride invite them to come along, it doesn't matter what they ride just that they ride safe and can enjoy a family orientated Your chapter is still looking for some help. We are in need of a Dinner Ride coordinator. If you are interested in this position please let us know. One of the staff members would like to talk to you about the positions. Remember to bring your suggestions for things to do this year. Your staff would really like to plan the events you would like to attend. If you want a picnic let us know. Do you want more rides and what day and time works best for you?
February 2017 Wa ri o to Wi n g s Vo l ume 2 I ssue 2 Its time to start visiting other chapters Page 11 If you looked at the calendar in this news letter you can see lots of opportunities to go visit other chapters. Jan and I love to go visit and we would like to have some of the chapter come with us. So to that end I have included our tentative visitation ride schedule in the calendar. These are the dates we are going to other chapters. If anyone would like to come with us please call or text or e-mail me and let us know. That way we can set up a ride that will fit your schedule and get us to the chapters on time. If you want to visit a chapter and it is not on our list let us know and we will try to make it work. We travel by car until the weather is good enough to ride then we ride as much as we can. We will also chase the plaques as much as we can so try to plan some rides to help out with that. When we go after the Couple of the Year Plaque it only requires Jan and I and it is given by ticket draw. When we go for the Middle and West TN Plaque it is done the same way there is no minimum number of people from our chapter required and they do a ticket draw. When we go after the TN Traveling Plaque or the Region Wanderer Plaque you must have five members attending and this is given to the highest miles traveled to the Gathering. The miles used are the total miles of all the members that attend the gathering, also if you ride your Motorcycle you get double miles for that rider and co-rider. If you have any questions about the rules please go to the district web site (www.gwrratn.org) and check them out. Let s Go Visiting!
