Contents Executive Summary 3 Market Report 4 Salary Guide 9 About Greythorn 24 Contact us 24 These survey results are recognised throughout the Australian IT industry as an accurate representation of the industry and a market leading source of quality insights and opinions. All survey responses, comments and insights have been consolidated for this Australian IT Recruitment Market Insights and Salary Guide 2016-2017. This survey was carried out during June-July 2016 and distributed via an online questionnaire. Greythorn received 2583 responses. Market Update As the digital sector continues to boom projects for 2016/17 are set to focus heavily on this space. Companies implementing online payments platforms are driving significant hiring growth as they invest in development projects to meet industry requirements. Many private sector organisations are now restructuring and moving to Public Cloud environments, and in doing so, undertaking large IT transformation programs that touch all areas of their businesses. While, larger corporate organisations that have traditionally taken a Waterfall approach to delivery are now looking at how to best introduce Scaled Agile to their businesses. Many mobile applications projects are also set to kick off this year. Across most areas, the contracting market is very buoyant, driven by project growth, and it looks likely to be another busy year for Business Analysts, Project Managers and Change professionals. Demand in key sectors such as digital and online payments is turning areas of the market candidate short, with increased opportunities available for business analysts with strong communication skills and those with digital and cloud migration experience. As always, strong stakeholder engagement and excellent communication skills remain in demand. Those with Agile and Scrum experience will see an abundance of opportunities. We re also set to see an increase in roles available for Change Managers who sit between the business and IT. Within the finance sector, Transformational Change is still very much a trend, but organisational change is increasing in popularity. In spite of a buoyant market, rates and salaries look set to remain stable for the most part. Those with strong stakeholder engagement skills and niche digital experience will start to be able to demand higher rates and salaries as the year progresses. Employers are advised to allow time to source the right talent by the time a role is released to the market or a recruitment partner, the candidate is often needed to commence yesterday. Allowing a little extra time to source top talent, can save time in the long run. When you do find the right candidate, be prepared to hire quickly, as good, highly skilled candidates are being snapped up fast. Job seekers looking to succeed would do well to polish up on stakeholder engagement skills and skill up in digital and Agile, if possible. Job interviews remain a stumbling block for many highly skilled professionals. We recommend preparing well for interviews and ensuring you are able to articulate key skills and selling points in a succinct manner. The market remains competitive, so spend time on your CV and LinkedIn profile to ensure your application stands out, obtain recommendations and endorsements and build your network. Lindsey Palmer Associate Director Kate Graham Principal Consultant Sourcing good, top quality, reliable talent in these areas remains a challenge. In such a market, employers cannot rely on active candidate pools via job board applications. We now see a shift towards focused networking, candidate pooling, and relationship building to ensure access to the best talent in the market, rather than the best talent currently available. Lisa Pavey Senior Consultant Grant Lynn Consultant 3
