Welcome to the Thunderbird Webelos Woods! Welcome to the Thunderbird District Webelos Woods. Our Webelos Woods is historic camping experience where we explore the history of Vasquez Rocks. This is a District wide event open to all Cub Scout Pack Webelos Dens in the Thunderbird District. Plan to join us at Vasquez Rocks starting Saturday morning through Sunday morning. All participants should arrive on Saturday by 10am. The Webelos Woods includes fun and learning activities for Webelos to demonstrate their skills. The Thunderbird Webelos Woods is a overnight family camping weekend for Webelos and their parents. During the weekend Webelos will have an opportunity to: Earn advancements taught by experts in the field, see Boy Scout troops doing scoutcraft learn how to cook their own supper and spend a night outside. Have fun and get a taste of Boy Scout camp. Make sure you complete the Registration Form and the Permission Forms for each Participant. If at all possible, please register your attendance ONLINE. You will NOT need to bring or submit a Registration From if you register ONLINE. You must bring the permission forms with you and payments. Include protection from weather in your equipment lists as it may get cold and windy at night. Check the suggested equipment list for items to bring. All Meals are provided. Camping Permits and Patches are included. It is highly recommended that you carpool. Drive safely on your way to Vasquez Rocks. Use the maps to find the camping area. Includes all food and patch Camping Fee Transportation Each youth must be accompanied by an adult. Advanced Registration is suggested, walk-ins are allowed with supporting documents. Weather Averages can range from 60s during the day to 30s at night. Thunderbird District Webelos Woods 2019 Information Guide Location The Webelos Woods will be held at the Group Camping area of Vasquez Rocks Natural Area. This area is in the North West section of the park just behind the main parking lot. Vasquez Rocks is located in the high desert near Agua Dulce Springs and features 932 acres of spectacular rock formations, Tataviam Indian sites, and a seasonal stream. The rocks history began in prehistoric times when the sandstone rocks were uplifted at a picturesque angle, showing their jagged red features. In 1874 Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California s most notorious bandits, used these rocks to elude capture by law enforcement. His name has since been associated with this geologic feature. The park is a popular hiking, picnicking, and equestrian area and has been used in many hit movies, television shows and commercials. The address is: 10700 West Escondido Canyon Road, Agua Dulce, CA 91350 Drive safely on your way to Vasquez Rocks. As you enter the park you will come to an intersection, go straight toward the gate. The gate should be open, drive past the gate. You will be met by the staff who will give you instructions on where to park and how to get to the camping area. There is a large parking area as you enter the park on the right. You may park there if you do not see the staff or the gate is closed. After parking proceed to the registration area. Thunderbird District Webelos Woods 2019 Information Guide Camp Courtesy Campsites will be assigned by the event Staff according to size and needs of the participants. General Rules NO electronic equipment, radios, games, DVD, boom boxes, power tools, generators, etc. Only radios permitted will be two-way for camp staff or unit adults. No sheath knives, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, or firearms. Leave No Trace guidelines will apply at all times. Lights out and quiet time at 10:00 P.M. Scouts are not allowed out of their campgrounds after 10PM, there is no access to the park areas after dark. No ground fires permitted. The event may be called off because of weather. Early departure (Saturday night) must be declared at registration. Exit packet will be exchanged at conclusion of Webelos Woods for Cubmaster/Den Leader Exit Survey forms. Notify Webelos Woods Staff of any unscheduled departures. Scout uniforms, either Field Class A or Activity Class B, must be worn. Parking only allowed in designated areas. Vehicles will be logged in as they arrive with license plate, and Pack number. You will be told to move your vehicle if in violation. Let us know if you need handicap parking. We will find a good location for you. No liquid fuels All medical incidents other than minor cuts and scrapes must be reported to Webelos Woods headquarters. All participants must register and pay the camp fees listed on the registration form. If the turnout is larger than anticipated and we are short patches, those late sign-ups may not receive a patch until a later date. After putting up your camp, please return any survey markers to HQ for reuse. All participants must abide by the above rules. Participants that refuse to abide by these rules run the risk of being denied any awards and patches, and may be asked to leave. There will be no refunds. If it is necessary to enforce this rule, the Webelos Woods Staff along with the Pack leaders will discuss prior to enforcement. Motor homes NOT ALLOWED. Thunderbird District Webelos Woods 2019 Information Guide Required Documents The following documents are to be submitted to the Webelos Woods Staff 1. Advanced Registration a) Email or Online registration with contact details and number of attendees 2. Documents due at Headquarters upon check-in: a) Completed Registration Form (Not Required if you registered ONLINE). b) Additions to registration, and additional fees if applicable. c) Check (payable to TROOP 927 BSA INC) or cash in the amount indicated on the registration form d) Permission/Medical/Talent release for each youth 3. Once check-in for a unit is completed, the following are given to the unit leader. a) Event Handbook (only if required) b) Activity Schedule 4. At check-out you will receive: a) All forms turned in at check-in will be returned to you. b) All patches - 9 - Rev 1.6

Meal Plan All meals are provided for participants in a Chuck Wagon style except for lunch which will be foil cooking. If you have special dietary requirements, please indicate this to the Webelos Woods committee through registration on the website. The meal plan for Webelos Woods is organized to provide fun to eat foods for the youth and give them a chance to learn about cooking in the out of doors. Breakfast will be served on Saturday as participants arrive. Come by the Chuck Wagon to get your meal. For Lunch the Webelos will create their own foil masterpiece that will be cooked by the staff. Dinner will be a traditional Dutch oven meal and the Webelos are expected to help! Snack will be available during the day for the scouts to munch on. On departure, we will have a breakfast as we prepare for our return home.

Thunderbird District Webelos Woods 2019 Information Guide Suggested Equipment REMEMBER FOOD IS PROVIDED 10essentials 1 Toilet Paper Don't be without 1 Sunscreen (high SPF) & Chap-stick Most important for warm months 1 Insect Repellent (non-aerosol) Not always required. 1 Personal First Aid Kit You can always use bandaids 1 Flashlight & Batteries Extra Batteries are always important 1 Compass A compass is a must, you can also bring a GPS 1 Scout Knife A must 1 Matches in Waterproof Holder Just in case 1 Nylon Cord 50 Feet Can be used for tents and clothes 1 Duct Tape Wrap some around a short pencil Camping 1 Sleeping Bag & Pad Bag should be rated to 30 degrees, used closed cell pad (not an air pad) 1 Sleeping Bag Liner You will want extra warmth, use a sleeping bag liner 1 Sleepwear Important in critter country 1 Tent Protection against wind and weather, a 3-person tent is best (fits 2 very well) 1 Ground Cover Protect your tent Clothing 1 Windbreaker (Lined) Use a lined jacket or plan to layer with additional outerwear 1 Jacket/Sweater (Medium weight) Remember to layer with an outerwear 1 Jacket (Heavy) Remember to layer with an outerwear 1 Shoes (Camp) Inexpensive shoes with good soles is best for activities. 2 Socks (Medium Weight) Scout scouts may be used 1 Pants (switchback) If switchbacks are not available you can bring both long and short pair of pants 2 Underwear Always a must 1 Hat with Brim (No ball caps) BRING A HAT 1 Pack or BSA T-Shirt The T-Shirt will be used during the day for activities and games. 1 Scout Uniform (Field or Class B) Check for the uniform standard for the event. Sometimes we are using CLASS B Forms 1 BSA Medical Form Packs should have these for each of their Scouts 1 Roster and Registration Form Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork Necessities 1 Mess Kit (utensils, cup, plate) Mess kit is REQUIRED. Remember FOOD IS PROVIDED 1 Rain Gear Just in case bring a poncho or rain clothes 1 Water bottle Keep hydrated. 1 Sun Glasses A must for sun protection 1 Duffel Bag (With name and Unit) Keep your equipment all together. This authorization will remain effective while the above minor is enroute to or from or participating in any Boy Scout program or activity of the Thunderbird District, GLAAC, BSA, unless revoked in writing by the undersigned, and delivered to the aforesaid agent.
