Jerry recently moved here from Buffalo, NY, and has been a modeler for 64 years. The September Come Fly With Us had a very good turnout. The Wings Out West event held at the ERAU flight line on Saturday, Oct. 3, was attended by about 12 club members. It was a good air show and demonstration. We re working with Embry-Riddle on establishing a joint policy (CdA, ERAU, and Control Tower) to work within the FAA regulations on flying within 5 miles of the airport. Future Events: B-47 and B-52 in the Cold War presentation at the Davis Learning Center 7 p.m. Oct. 14. Indoor Flying on Sunday, Oct. 17, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Jet Rally at CVMA on the first Saturday of November. Warbirds and Classics, North Las Vegas, Nov. 6-8. Fun Fly in Florence on Nov. 14. London Bridge Seaplane Classic, Lake Havasu, November 13-15. Vice President s Report (Cole Field): Good turnout (and great weather) for the annual Boat Float and Picnic on Sept. 27. There were 46 attendees, including about 15 students. The event featured boats, planes and multirotors. The food was excellent as always. The Sweetheart Dinner will be held in February. More details will be provided as they become available. Safety Report (Rudy Arp): Be aware of the larger ditches that exist now they can affect taxing along the runway from the flight stands to the south end. Three points were presented in the October FliteLines column: Nitro-fueled planes are requested to use the flight stands away from the flight stations to minimize noise interference for communications. Pilots in the flight stations have priority for the runway. Communication is key before taxing onto the runway. 3D flyers with larger aircraft are to fly maneuvers on the far side of the runway when others are in the flight stations, and those with micro aircraft needing to fly closer in are allowed to use the helicopter area. Treasurer s Report (Dave Marston): The checking account balance is $2,708. We have received $750 in donations for the runway repair project versus the $1,275 cost very good response from club members. We are very nearly at break-even for revenue versus expenses for the year. Secretary s Report (Reported by Dave Marston on behalf of Al Weikart): We have 80 members. AMA renewals are underway. Election of Officers for 2016: A slate of volunteers for each position was presented, and nominations from the floor were opened. There being none, a motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the new officers by acclimation. They are as follows: President: Dave Domzalski Vice President: Matt Hinshaw Secretary: Al Weikart NEXT MEETING 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 Building 21, Robertson Aviation Safety Center, Room 101, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 3700 Willow Creek Road. MEETING MINUTES Treasurer: Dave Marston Safety Officer: Rudy Arp Chief Instructor: Cole Field Board Members: Peter Genereaux and Walter Wilken Peter conducted the 50/50 raffle Earl LeBlanc won $24, which he donated back to the club. Rudy donated a 60-sized ARF as a second raffle prize. It was won by Don Broadston. Show and Tell: Michael Reznick brought his AH- 6J Little Bird. Its base is a TRex 500 copter that he has converted to fly-barless with five blades. A larger tail rotor was also required. He has constructed a totally new cockpit and installed scale scratch-built armaments. It is an excellent model. He indicated that it flies very well. Kent Ewart showed his P-38 from a discontinued FMS kit. It is electric-powered and has counter-rotating props and really good exterior details. It utilizes 11-12 servos. Retracts are included. It flies very well on a 3600 MAh 4S battery, although flights are relatively short. Meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m. Submitted by Dave Marston on behalf of Al Weikart AUTUMN AVIATION Continued from page 1 parts of campus. And there is an increasing recognition that RC is a valuable way for students to gain more hands-on experience. Please be welcoming to students and kindly advise them of our rules and etiquette as needed. The Love Field control tower is aware of our operations, has no issue with us, and actually prefers that all flying be done at our field. What concerns the tower is people going rogue and flying in other areas around the airport. I m told that the light poles at Pioneer Park are 85 feet tall. This can be used to help gauge your altitude. More importantly, we should all stay aware of low-flying full-scale aircraft. We generally do an excellent job of advising one another of low-flying aircraft. This may be particularly useful for pilots who have trouble hearing them or are just too busy to notice where they are. I have noticed a number of full-scale aircraft flying over our field at altitudes that might be lower than 400 feet. Remember, they have the right of way. One last note: Tom Ault has passed away at the age of 91. He s probably had the most years with Casa de Aero of anyone in the club. I would call on him for historical accounts when I had questions or wanted to set the record straight. Tom enjoyed woodworking and built our coffee cart. He provided us with coffee at our Come Fly With Us events and club meetings for over 10 years. For his final airplane project, he built a flying pig a play on the saying when pigs fly. Tom was always cheerful and helpful. We will miss him dearly. RC CHAT FORUM NOW LIVE ON CASA DEAERO.COM This is your opportunity to interact with other club members on our site!
