May 26-28 CAMC Mtn Skills We will be staying at a hostel for the weekend. Friday evening is planning for Saturday and some presentations. Saturday is spent outside on the trail, practical information is devlivered in the great outdoors, be prepared for a longish day. Sunday participants get a chance to sue the skills they have learnt. Cost is $25 plus cost of the hostel. July 8 Black Rock Mtn Lookout Tricia Bateman 403-346-8592 t_bateman@shaw.ca Moderate to 18 kms 892m 10 Potential for hike to be 12 kms with vehicle crossing of river if water levels allows. Expect some water crossings, so suggest waters shoes if you'd like. Some steep sections with a bit of scrambling to reach the top. Great views of Devels Head and Ghost River region from the lookout. July 15-17 Iceline Trail - Yoho National Park Barb Verma 403-391-8031 barb.verma@hotmail.com Begineer 20.8km 710m 2 nights / 3 days 8 1st night: Laughing Falls. 2nd Night : Little Yaho Camprground. There will be a meeting before the trip to learn the basics of backpacking, packing and meal planning. Cost: $34.00 (2 nights + back country wilderness pass. July 22 Two o'clock Creek Steep Hiking 17 kms 1090m 6-8 hrs 10 Leaving at 7 am from Tim Horton's on 67th Street. Car pools to be organized the of the morning of the hike. If hikers want to do both the 2'oclock ridge and the Cresent Falls/Bighorn Canyon, you can arrange to stay at Shunda Hostel or arrange your own camping for Saturday Night. July 23 Crescent Falls/Bighorn Canyon Wendy McConnell 403-598-7195 wendymcconnell1122@yahoo.ca Moderate 6.2 km 5-6 hrs 10 Easy walk followed by a short, steep scramble, elevation gain 80m. Meet at the Bighorn Canyon park area and view point 4 km up Crescent Falls road. This hike can be combined with the 2 O'Clock Creek the day before. For people coming from Red deer, meet at Tim Horton's on 67th Street to leave at 7:00 am to arrange car pooling. If hikers want to do both the 2'oclock ridge and the Cresent Falls/Bighorn Canyon, you can arrange to stay at Shunda Hostel or arrange your own camping for Saturday Night. July 29 Littlehorn Pass Pat Staniforth-Smith 403-307-7380 patss.pss@gmail.com Day 20kms 1080m 7-8 hrs 10 Creek crossings. Steep climb to alphine. Long day. Leaving from Red Deer morning of. Meet at 6 am. Aug 6-9 Cat Creek Recreation Area, Kananaskis Country Staying at the Etherington Creek campground. 61 primitive sites. Book your own accommodations. Reservations are available. Aug 6: Picklejar Lakes. Moderate hike. 8 km return, 500m elevation to a series of 4 backcountry lakes. Known for fishing, bring your pole and license if you like. Aug 7: Zephr Creek to the pictographs. 9 km return, 600m elevation. Requires crossing the Highwood River. Aug 8: Loomis Lake. 8 km easy bike suitable for novice rider followed by 4 km hike (24 km return). Requires crossing the Highwood River plus 6 crossings of Loomis Lake with your bike. Aug 9: Pasque Mountain. Moderate. 13 km return. 700 m elevation.

This is an advanced trip that requires a good attitude and good physical fitness. You need to be able to carry a backpack into the hut. Required gear can be rented or borrowed. A great opportunity to learn the basics of wilderness and glacier travel in a safe environment with some of the most spectacular scenery in the Rockies. Park pass is required for each car. Cost is ~$36/night plus wilderness pass $69. Aug 26 Gallatea 16 kms 600m 6-7 hrs 10 Leaving 7 am from AMA parking lot. Car pools to be organized morning of the hike. Please arrive by 6:45 am. Aug 26-29 McFail Creek to Weary Gap Experience minimum 6 campsite has no services available Aug 26: 10 km, 300 m elevation to camp and set up. Aug 27: Day hike to Lake of Horns. 3 km return to camp. 400 m elevation. Aug 28: Day hike to Hill of Flowers. 4.2 km return to camp. 550 m elevation. Aug 29: out. Sep 2-4 Carnarvan Lake Kananskis Country Experience minimum 4 Carnarvan Lake in K-Country. Experience backpackers. Remote, bear country with no backpacker services. Must use chains to access lake.
