Date: April 15, 2014 To: SIUSA President and Board Members From: Toni Koster Vice President Region III Subject:1st Quarter Report Period January 1 March 31, 2014 CLUB VISITS: QUARTERLY UPDATE January - I attended Seattle s Past President s dinner on January 7, They had a wonderful turnout. I also attended the Winter Board meeting in Nashville, Jan 9-12. February I attended the monthly dinner with Skal International of Portland on February 19. Their entire club attended that evening. It was a great German dinner. March I attended Seattle s 60 th Anniversary along with President Carlo Banks on March 4. They greatly appreciated us both being there. In addition, I spoke to the tourism class at South Seattle Community College while I was there in regards to young Skal. Hopefully, they may get one or two more young skal members from it. Seattle is also putting Georgia Hewitt, Mark Hewitt s daughter on their board to be their Young Skal representative. Clubs Account receivable as of 3/31/2014: Anchorage - $120.30, Boise - $635, Portland - $127 credit, Reno/Tahoe - $254, Sacramento payment dues were sent, SF - $127.00, San Jose - $4.00 Seattle up to date Fundraising and Education Committee: To be started in April 2014 with Ed Davis and myself. Mostly due to a few deaths in the clubs and a couple of members that chose to not renew their membership Florimond Volckaert Fund : Notices went out to clubs to make sure their donations are up to date Skal International Anchorage: JANUARY, 2014: Club Executive Committee met on January 22 at the Whale s Tail in Hotel Captain Cook. Discussion topics included status of renewing members whose 14 dues are unpaid; upcoming dinner venues and future fundraising activities. New year monthly dinner meetings kicked off with their January 23 dinner at Kincaid Grill. Good attendance of 32 members enjoyed a three-course meal. K&L Distributors sent a representative to present and donate a variety of wines to accompany dinner. Spirits were high and fun was had by all as President Dave Kasser inducted new member, Sonya Wellman, complete w/a Downtown Abbey theme!! FEBRUARY, 2014: An EC meeting was held on February 18 at La Cabana Restaurant. Among the agenda items were our March, 2014 Officer election and induction; a decision made for new President McDonald, current EST Pignalberi and, possibly, outgoing President Kasser, to attend and represent SI Anchorage at the NAASC Congress in Halifax next May, and Pignalberi reported that all current members renewed for 2014 with only two members opting out. Membership stands at 41 Active/Associate and 2 Life/Retired for a total of 43!! A unique monthly dinner meeting was held at the George Sullivan Arena on February 19. Tasty Carnivore catered; following dinner Skalleagues were treated to a hockey game between the Alaska Aces and Ontario. Member George Sandoval hosted the group w/game tickets. MARCH, 2014: La Cabana Restaurant was the site for our March 20 dinner and induction of 2014 Officers. Thirty one members/guests enjoyed a Mexican buffet and margaritas prior to the following Officers assuming their new Club positions: President, Candice McDonald; VP, Darren Hubbard; Secretary, Sheron Patrick; Treasurer, Tom Marriage, and Past President, David Kasser. Tim Melican continues as SIUSA Rep and Pignalberi as EST. In May, 2013 they lost long time Skal member and former Club President, Annamae Rocker. In September, 2013, Skal member, Mark Eliason. Skal International Boise: Halifax. Go Boise!!!!! Month: January 2014 Meeting Date: 28th How many attendees: 25 Boise is submitting their bid for the 2014 NAASC Congress in Meeting Location: Boise Hotel and Conference Center

Month: February 2014 Meeting Date: 25th Meeting Location: Chandlers Steakhouse How many attendees: 18 Number of new members: 1 Names: Reno Gazzola Fundraising: Golf Tournament Scheduled Comments, Notes or Suggestions, General Meeting: Guests included Jolene Schow, Diann Scheetz and Kelly Jenkins. The membership voted to seek the 2016 NAASC for Boise. Dana Gaston confirmed the Annual Golf Tournament for June 9 at Plantation Country Club. Month: March 2014 Meeting Date: 25th Meeting Location: Sakana Sushi How many attendees: 20 Number of new members: 0 Names: NA Fundraising: Teams and Hole Sponsors for Golf Tournament Comments, Notes or Suggestions: Updated general membership on NAASC bid. Cheryl Perry will be our voting member in Nova Scotia. Should we be a finalist for 2016, we will be sending additional members such as Terry Kopp, Dana Gaston and Kathy Pidgeon. Skal International Portland: They have had great attendance at each of the meetings this year. They have one new member and one who just applied. Executive Secretary has been sick. They are happy there have been no deaths. The club is going on a road trip to the Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls the 3 rd week of June. One of their members works there. They have about 24 people going along. Skal International Reno-Tahoe: January dinner was the officer s installation at La Strada in the Eldorado Hotel Casino. They had 22 attendees February dinner was at SoHo Restaurant, new potential member with 13 attendees March dinner was dark Skal International Sacramento:

Thursday, January 23, 2014 Founders Day Meeting Iron Steak Restaurant ~ there were 25 members in attendance. It was a great night with some of their original members talking about the club when it was first started here in Sacramento. Thursday, February 27, 2014 Season s 52 ~ 28 total members in attendance. They had to share sad news that one of their retired members Rees Williams passed away on February 1, 2014. It was Terry s official last meeting as President, they took photos of all members for our website, our goal is to get it up and running with current meetings and member information. Thursday, March 27, 2014 Lucca Italian Restaurant ~ 22 members in attendance. This was their White Elephant silent auction, there were many treasures that were bought and sold by our members. Skal International San Francisco: January 9 San Francisco held their January meeting at Hotel Whitcomb which is a marvel of early 19th century and Edwardian architecture that can be seen throughout the historic hotel. The Austrian crystal chandeliers, marble columns, rare Janesero wood paneling, intricately carved ceiling molding and beautiful Tiffany stained glass at the front desk and in the piano bar are but a few of the spectacular features of this exquisite property. FEBRUARY 6TH @ Mercedes...Hair of the Dog" Cantina a fabulous Mexican Restaurant located in the Financial District. It was be a fun and festive evening. They had entire restaurant to themselves March 6, 2014 San Francisco held their march event at the Wayfare Tavern which is a rustic but elegant gathering place, rich with history and tradition. The first floor features an open kitchen and impressive fireplace built from bricks salvaged after the Earthquake and Great Fire of 1906. All three levels, including our two private dining rooms, are floored with wood sourced from a turn of the century barn. Other touches nod to the Barbary Coast era and the building's own long history. Skal International San Jose: January 22, University Club in Palo Alto, CA had about 42 people in attendance. This was their installation of new officers meeting where their 2014 Executive Committee members took their offices! February 26, Meeting held at The Bucket Restaurant in Santa Clara, CA had about 32 people in attendance for our annual business meeting. We announced we had 22 men and 30 women representing 11 categories of: 24 Travel Agents 6 Cruise Lines 6 Tour Operators 5 Hotels 3 Destination Management Companies 1 Attraction 1 Consultant

1 Insurance 1 Motor Coach 3 Retired 1 Life 52 members in all March 26, Paolo s Restaurant in San Jose, CA had 36 people present Skal International Seattle: January was their Past President s dinner at Ponti s Restaurant. Region III VP attended. Great dinner and about 40 attendees February Had a great meeting trying to get ready for their Mar 60 th Anniversary Dinner in March March March was their 60 th Anniversary for Skal International of Seattle. SIUSA President Carlos Banks and Region III VP attended this festive event at Sullivan s restaurant. In addition Skal member of Reno Fei Ye Kass also was in attendance.
