YOU CAN Get to know us: Pozarevac Historical Archives, founded in 1948, is a cultural institution whose mission is to preserve documentary material and archival content as cultural heritage of significant public importance on the territory of the Branicevo County (the city of Pozarevac and the municipalities of Veliko Gradiste, Golubac, Malo Crnice, Zabari, Zagubica, Kucevo and Petrovac na Mlavi). The archival depots contain 630 permanent archival funds and collections, amounting to 5000 meters of archival material, dating from XVII to XX century. For seventy years the Archives have collected this silent but telling evidence of centuries past to preserve it for those who have not been born yet.
Pozarevac Historical Archives keeps passports from 1791, Ottoman sultan s letter of patent, Prince Milos s letters, documents of his abdication, but also his orders on the marriage ceremony rules from 1817; a letter in which a mother pleads with Toma Vucic Perisic to find employment for her son, the news of the Turkish bombardment of Belgrade in 1862 and a demand to evacuate all the Turks from Pozarevac written by the residents of Sutulova bara (a Pozarevac neighborhood); a medal issued by the Montenegrian Prince Nikola, testimonies of the First World War victims, arrest warrants for Tito and Draza, Kreiskommandatur orders from the World War Two, the notice of the first women s vote in 1945, testimonies of the rebuilding of the country after the liberation... Were they not to exist here, who knows what destiny would befall them: they may have been turned to dust or moldered in a family album long ago. To discover:

To learn: The archives are the keepers of memories, they contain the proof of our existence, they are the most important institutions of a state identity and national identity. Everything is organized according to periods in the archives, but they have a timeless dimension. Through the archival depots we travel through time which holds in place the documents testifying of the dictatorships and democracies, ideologies and political persecutions, victims and their executioners. They bear with pride their dates, stamps, signatures, testify of the medals, praises, decisions about titles and properties, life and death...
YOUR HOST POZAREVAC HISTORICAL ARCHIVES VISITOR INFORMATION Pozarevac Historical Archives The Old Barracks Pavillion 4 is located in Mose Pijade Street, in Pozarevac, the Republic of Serbia. Opening times: Monday to Friday 07:30 to 15:30 (outside of the indicated times and on weekends by appointment only) all year round. Open only to organized groups by appointment. The tour: The visit to the Pozarevac Historical Archives includes: the tour of the XIX barracks now the Archives building and a herritage monument, the permanent exhibitions Old and rare books 1752-1864 and Photographs of old Pozarevac with the expert guide, photo session and the signing of the Visitors book. From September 1st 2017 the possibility of a tour of the permanent open air exhibition Pozarevac area crafts until 1941. Every June 9th, we organize The Archives Open Door Day for all the visitors.
