of 6 10/2/2017 7:01 PM Subject: FL Happenings for October 2017 From: " News" <flnews@cox.net> Date: 10/2/2017 12:25 PM To: <flnews@cox.net> This sums up just how fast the year is going by! With Fall comes less ac/vi/es in but there is at least one more planned for you to a2end in October.. A Community Potluck on Saturday, October 21 st 11:30 am at the Community Center House Our new Coconino County District 4 Supervisor Jim Parks plans to be in for the day. Let s get to know him at a Meet and Greet and Eat! Who can pass up a good potluck?? Bring a dish to share. Beverages and service ware will be provided. There just might be some apple cider and pumpkin pie! Mr. Parks will also be attending the Fire District s monthly Board meeting at 10 AM. You are invited to attend the board meeting, too. They are always open to the public. AND.The Piecemakers (quilting group) will have their drawing for this years quilt winner. They always come up with a masterpiece. They have been selling raffle tickets all summer long. Now it s time to find who will be the lucky winner! Green Waste Site Hours for October Wednesdays 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM Fridays 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM Saturdays 8:30 AM to 3 PM FLOA Volunteer of the Year for 2017!! Every year the FLOA Board of Directors chooses a member who gives of their time and talents above and beyond for the benefit of the entire community, and announces their choice at the Annual Meeting, which was held on September 16 th. This year s award goes to QUENTIN TOLBY!! Here s just some of the things that Quentin takes care of behind the scenes; he scrubs the grills and checks them for readiness before every pancake breakfast, he arranges to get the eggs (120 dozen of them!) from Hickman Farms and bring them to. He adopted the 4 little Fir trees in the front yard of the Community Center to bring them new life. Be sure and check them out! Quentin can also be found behind the scenes of many events, doing whatever he can to make them happen.

of 6 10/2/2017 7:01 PM Little Springs Project Prescribed Burn If you recall, back in July we had a presentation by the Black Mesa Ranger District staff about the Little Springs Prescribed Burn that was going to be implemented in the Fall. This burn will be on the boundary of. We promised to send out more information as the time got closer. Here is the latest News Release on the project. We will send out notices of actual burn dates as they get scheduled.

of 6 10/2/2017 7:01 PM Update on the progress of the new Fire Station From Chief Dave Rodriquez The building was topped out Wednesday (9/27) as the last blocks were laid on the administrative wing. Kudos to G&G Masonry! Glenn Hottman s crews are exceptional and it shows in the quality of their work. True craftsman for sure!

of 6 10/2/2017 7:01 PM Framers are on site and the crew quarters roof is on. They are now installing rafters on the administrative side. I anticipate roof framing work to be completed by early this week. Septic system has been installed and was inspected by the county last Friday. Take a look at our website and Facebook page Fire District, AZ for the latest pictures. The project is running smoothly and I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Enjoy these drone pics: Greengs from the FLFD Legacy Commiee! We re contac/ng you this month with good news on several fronts!

of 6 10/2/2017 7:01 PM First, hopefully you ve been by the new sta/on and have seen the tremendous progress. All the external walls have been completed, roof trusses are next and we are on track to reach our goal of being dried in in /me for the first snow! Second, we ve discussed our $300,000 goal. I am very pleased to announce that, due to extremely generous dona/ons by some of our community members along with those from the recent ac/vi/es held over the Labor Day weekend, we have now exceeded our goal. Let us take this opportunity to once again thank all of you for your generosity in giving to this project! We d like to acknowledge several of our community members and organiza/ons. First, our thanks go out to Steve and Jeanine Daniel along with all those who helped in pudng together the Poker Run. It was a great success and had a record number of par/cipants. Also thanks to John and Debbie Skeldon who held a large rummage sale specifically to benefit the new sta/on. Finally, we thank the Auxiliary for their very generous dona/on! Please be aware of a new development. The Fire District s original plan for the new building was to completely build out the Equipment Bay and the Crew s Quarters but to only shell in the Admin Wing due primarily to cost concerns. However, with over 3 months to go this year, the great momentum shown by all of you in dona/ng, and a much appreciated but surprise dona/on by G&G Masonry to donate all the concrete needed in the Admin wing, we are now moving forward with also gedng it completed. We es/mate that another roughly $50,000 will be needed to complete that wing. So if you have been holding off on dona/ng this year or have been wai/ng un/l the end of the year to make your tax deduc/ble dona/on through the Auxiliary, won t you please consider proceeding at your earliest convenience so that we can finish all areas of the sta/on simultaneously and save the District significant cost in the long run? As we like to do, we have a2ached the latest list of contributors since our last pos/ng and up through about 8/31. Please take a look and feel free to thank your neighbors who appear there. Of course, you can also review the full list of all contributors at the District s website found at www.flfdaz.com. You can also find dona/on forms there that you can download. Our greatest thanks again to everyone who has par/cipated in the historical effort for our community. We expect your Legacy to stand for decades to come!
