Falls Bowling Club The new Canberra Rotary Peace Bell was unveiled on Friday, with members of the public invited to ring it between 11.00am and 2.00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The 350-kilo brass bell came from Japan. It is a replica of the peace bell at the United Na ons HQ in New York. Its design includes 103 coins from na ons of the UN. It is the 23rd peace bell in the world. The bell will usually be rung on World Peace Day on the third Tuesday in September each year. That date also coincides with the opening day of the United Na ons General Assembly, and na onal and interna onal days of remembrance and celebra on. The Peace Bell project was ini ated by Rotary in partnership with the World Peace Associa on. Rotary Canberra Burley Griffin took on the ambi ous project of fundraising, coordina ng the design with local firm Kasparek Architects and overseeing the build of the World Peace Bell Pavilion, by RAM Construc ons. The peace bell was a fi ng achievement to mark the 90th anniversary of Rotary in Canberra.
