Start the day with a guided tour of San Francisco, one of the most photographed, filmed, and documented cities in the world, a tantalizing mixture of history and modern sophistication. Built on several hills, the city is the gem of the magnificent bay at the foot of these hills. You will see the business district, Union Square, and Chinatown. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore the city at your own pace, take the cable car or do some shopping. Thursday, October 3 rd Day 3 San Francisco Napa Modesto Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning you will cross the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge to the picturesque town of Sausalito. Upon arrival we will have a brief orientation of the town before free time to walk around this artists village. Continue the day in the famous Napa Valley and the Sonoma region. This region is one of the top spots for production of the best California wines, as well as some wines produced following French and Italian methods. Visit the prestigious Robert Monadavi Vineyards for a tour, wine tasting and gourmet lunch. Next, we visit Walnut Creek, a charming town full of shops. Finally, we arrive in Modesto for our overnight stay. Overnight: Best Western Palm Court Inn (or similar) (B, L) Friday, October 4 th Day 4 Modesto Yosemite Bass Lake Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we drive to majestic Yosemite National Park, one of the most beautiful parks in the state of California. Yosemite surprises by its fresh Alpine landscapes with pine forests and magnificent waterfalls. Sheer white monolithic cliffs tower over the valley. You will discover Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, Bridalveil Falls and Yosemite Falls, as well as a pioneer village in the southern part of the park. Enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant in Bass Lake this evening. Overnight: Pines Resort (or similar) (B, D) Saturday, October 5 th Day 5 Bass Lake Monterey Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we leave for Monterey Peninsula with splendid beaches, cypress trees and cliffs. It has been a favourite spot for many American and European painters and poets. Visit the town of Monterey, particularly the fishing port and Cannery Row, made immortal by the writer John Steinbeck. Have lunch (not included) followed by a visit of nearby Carmel, one the most charming coastal towns of California, with untouched beaches and attractive shops. This afternoon we embark on the famed 17 Mile Drive, which offers spectacular views of the coast and dramatic cliffs. Stop along the way at Seal & Bird Rocks where you ll see pelicans, cormorants, seals and sea lions. Return to Monterey where the remainder of the day will be free to relax at the hotel or have dinner (not included) at a local restaurant. Sunday, October 6 th Day 6 Monterey San Simeon Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning is at your leisure to enjoy a whale watching cruise or visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Have lunch (not included) before leaving for San Simeon for a visit of Hearst Castle. Built for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, the estate is a pastiche of historic architectural styles that its owner admired during his travels around Europe. The estate once featured 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres (0.5 km 2 ) of gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world's largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds. One highlight of the estate is the outdoor Neptune Pool, located near the edge of the hilltop, which offers an expansive vista of the mountains, ocean and the main house. This morning we start the day with a tour of lovely Santa Barbara with its golden beaches and palm-lined bay, red-tiled roofs and Spanish architecture. Visit the beautiful mission Santa Barbara, the largest Franciscan convent in California today, considered to be the queen of the California missions. We then continue to Los Angeles for a visit of Hollywood where we will walk down Hollywood Boulevard with legendary Grauman s Chinese Theatre where you will find the handprints of famous stars in the cement. This morning we start with a guided tour of Los Angeles. Throughout the day, your guide will stop at and point out the countless film locations in the city. Starting in downtown, you will see the business district and the Mexican quarter and lively Olvera Street. We will have a photo stop at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. Have lunch (not included) at the LA Farmer's Market. This morning we drive to Santa Monica, beautiful seaside city, with miles of beach, exciting outdoor activities and cultural experiences for all ages. Set along a beautiful 3.5-mile stretch of coastline, Santa Monica blends an unmistakable California beach town vibe with touches of Riviera-style romance and Hollywood glamour to create a destination that is truly like nowhere else in the world. Here you have time at leisure to enjoy the beach, take a stroll on the pier or do some shopping on the 3 rd Street Promenade. This afternoon we drive to San Diego with stops along the way in the charming beach towns of Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. This evening enjoy free time to continue exploring or relax at the hotel.
