ITINERARY DAY 1: NAIROBI On arrival in Nairobi you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, where the remainder of the day is free to enjoy at your leisure. (D) DAY 2: NAIROBI - LAIKIPIA WILDLIFE RESERVE After breakfast on the terrace of your hotel this morning, you will be transferred to Nairobi Wilson Airport for the private charter on to Nanyuki. On arrival at the airstrip, you will then drive through the park on a short transfer to your camp, arriving in time for a leisurely lunch. The afternoon then presents a chance to relax and enjoy your surroundings, before heading out later on a game drive. (B,L,D) DAY 3: LAIKIPIA WILDLIFE RESERVE Naturally, game drives to see the huge variety of big game in the region including lion, leopard, elephant and wild dog are very popular, as are the guided walks which allow you to learn more about the smaller things that you might miss on game drives. For those looking for something a little different the nearby river is great for swimming in and when the water levels are high enough tubing over the rocks is great fun. Rock climbing is also possible for those so inclined. Visits to a traditional Samburu village are a highlight for many, as is fly-camping deep in the bush and enjoying dinner cooked over an open fire. (B,L,D) DAY 4: LAIKIPIA WILDLIFE RESERVE Toda you could join the reserve's unique wild dog tracking programme, which monitors the population of dogs within the conservancy. Travel by foot or in a vehicle in search of the one of the fastest growing population of wild dogs in Africa. Although the conservancy is large, it hosts two wild dog packs, so there is a good chance of having an incredible wild dog sighting. (B,L,D) DAY 5: LAIKIPIA WILDLIFE RESERVE - MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE Departing Laikipia after breakfast this morning you fly on to the famed landscapes of the Maasai Mara, surely one of Africa's most dramatic and spectacular wildlife areas. On arrival you will be driven to your camp by way of a short game drive, reaching there in time for lunch and a chance to spend the afternoon relaxing before heading out later on an early evening game drive. DAY 6: MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE A full day in the Mara provides a great opportunity to spend some time exploring the area by foot or vehicle. Home to some of the largest populations of big cats on the continent, as well as rhinos, crocodiles and more than 470 species of birds, the game viewing here is excellent. Between July and October each year the gathering herds of the Great Migration congregate on the plains surrounding the camp, providing an opportunity to perhaps witness their chaotic and dramatic crossing of the Mara River. (B,L,D) DAY 7: MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE There can be few finer ways of spending a final morning on safari than by enjoying one of the park's most memorable experiences - a sunrise hot air balloon trip. Leaving camp before dawn, you can soar over the Maasai Mara to enjoy its open plains from an entirely new perspective. This is an additional option and it is very popular so please book in advance. (B,L,D) DAY 8: MAASAI MARA CONSERVANCIES - MOMBASA Transferring to the airstrip after breakfast you will fly back to Nairobi this morning, to connect with an onward flight to Ukanda Airport on Kenya's southeastern coast. A short drive from the airport then brings you to the shores of the Indian Ocean, where you will spend your final few nights enjoying the azure waters and white sand beaches of Mombasa. (B,D) DAY 9: MOMBASA Tucked away on the pristine white sands of Diani Beach, 35kms South of Mombasa, Waterlovers is a lovely small beach resort, ideal for visitors looking to enjoy somewhere with a warm and friendly atmosphere, but also to have their own private spaces to escape to. The offshore reefs of Kisite Marine National Park great for snorkelling and diving, whilst the sandy shoreline can boast some of the finest beaches on the East African coast. Flying back to the domestic terminal at Ukanda Airport, you will then be driven across the city to the international terminal for your onward flight connections. (B)
ACCOMMODATION MAASAI MARA CONSERVANCIES KICHECHE MARA CAMP Found deep in the famed Mara North Conservancy, Kicheche Mara Camp boasts a Gold Ecotourism rating, meaning that it can rightly be regarded as one of the most ecologically friendly camps in all of Kenya. There are eight Safari Tents here, including a Family Tent, all of which are very spacious and comfortable with mosquito-proof gauze windows which also allow a cooling breeze to blow through the tents during the day. The en-suite bathrooms have flush loos and bucket showers with hot water provided on request, although there is cold running water for the sinks. The rooms all have covered sitting areas at the front which are a great spot for afternoons with a good book. The main mess tent is the social hub of the lodge where guests can gather before game drives, to enjoy the superb food for which the camp is renowned and in the evenings to discuss their day s adventures through the Mara North Conservancy. A small gift shop is found at the main part of the lodge and all charging facilities are found in the lounge. Activities on offer from Kicheche Mara include morning and afternoon game drives, guided bush walks, picnic lunches and sundowner drinks excursions. Visits to local Maasai Villages can also be arranged upon request with hot air balloon safaris also possible at an additional cost. MOMBASA & SOUTHERN COAST WATERLOVERS BEACH RESORT Tucked away on the pristine white sands of Diani Beach, 35kms South of Mombasa, Waterlovers is a lovely small beach resort, ideal for visitors looking to enjoy somewhere with a warm and friendly atmosphere, but also to have their own private spaces to escape to. Each of the eight air-conditioned suites comes complete with a private veranda where guests can relax in the afternoons and enjoy the stunning views out across the beach. The en-suite bathrooms are beautifully appointed and have all of the amenities one could wish for. Inside the bedrooms have a traditional Swahili feel to them with brightly coloured throws and cushions, four poster wooden beds draped in mosquito nets and traditional furnishings and decorations.
