Food Industry Trends Consolidation of Food Companies Companies that were highly leveraged had a hard time so they were ripe for the picking Private Label Penetration Has grown from 15% before the recession to more than 18% of total sales Store brands accounted for 90% of all supermarket revenue gains Exports Were Up Chinese purchased more than $15 billion worth of U.S. foods passing Mexico and Japan to become the 2 nd largest exporter behind Canada Imports of Seafood Are Up China accounted for 22% of all seafood imports

Food Industry Changes Food Companies are Getting Stronger Expect more consolidation of the companies that are not getting strong Private Labels As the economy improves, sales will remain strong as the branded consumer packaged goods will find it difficult to regain lost market share Expect Food Prices to Increase This is due to higher food commodity and energy prices Expect to see more west coast food companies moving to the Southeast Exports to Brazil Will Increase Especially in the poultry industry The Brazilian government is allowing credits for up to 60 or 90 days on taxes owed for imports
