Trail Supervisor Report We ll soon be out enjoying our well groomed trails and it s never too early to start thinking Safety First. It s inevitable that sooner or later you ll be sharing the trail with grooming equipment. It s important to respect the work that our operators do to smooth and restore the trails to a safe condition. Please follow these guidelines when approaching a grooming machine: Always yield to grooming equipment. Slow down when approaching or overtaking the m a c h i n e. I t o n l y t r a v e l s between 5 to 8 miles per hour. When approaching an oncoming groomer, do so with caution and move over to the far right of the trail. This equipment is very wide and may take up most or all of the width of the trail. It s possible you may need to stop on the very far edge or off of narrow winding trail sections. When overtaking equipment from the rear, slow down and assess the situation. If there is good sight distance and clear trail ahead, pass the groomer with caution. Many times the groomer will move to the side, when possible, and slow or stop so you can pass. President s Report First of all I d like to thank Scott and Becky, of Sattler's Bucksnort Resort, for hosting our November meeting. The pizza buffet had a great selection to choose from and was very tasty as well! Special Recognition Each year our trail Area Leaders and Helpers and our Groomer Operators spend many hours out on our trails getting them ready for the season or grooming them during the season. These individuals are employees of the club and can choose to be paid for their services. On the other hand, they can also choose to donate their time to the club as volunteers. A special recognition goes to Bruce La Rose for donating over 200 hours of combined grooming and trail maintenance time last season! I know Bruce truly enjoys working for the club to make sure our trails are the best they can be. I d also like to recognize Tom Teichmiller who donated all of his grooming hours and the hours he spent putting out and taking off lake markers. Jim Heller and Charlie Kramer donated their trail maintenance hours last year and Dave Kasprzyk, Doug Holle, Frank Kozlowski, Rick Edwardson, Tim Deschler and Jeff Kresch all donated their grooming hours to the club as well. The financial impact, because of these member s generosity, was 543 hours and $4,777 in savings. Once again, thank you for your dedication to the club through y o u r v o l u n t e e r i s m. Yo u r generosity is much appreciated! Club News As the water has risen over the past three years, so has the beaver population within our trail system. And boy, can they ever do damage to our trails. It s incredible to see how they purposefully manage to clog culverts under trails for the purpose of flooding the area to build their lodges. Bob Rynders has been tirelessly working with Area Leaders Bruce La Rose, Bryan Van Loo and Jerry Larson to both unclog the culverts and repair the damage to the trails if they were flooded. At the last Board of Director s meeting, Board members decided to take proactive measures to make sure that area beaver trappers will be working our trail system year round instead of just during the trapping season. Thank You Once again our club participated in Wisconsin s Adopt-A-Highway Program. Thanks Brad & Terry Sturm, Jeff & Kelly Bobbe and George Tamms, who braved a pouring rain, to pick up trash along Highway 70 West. This activity provides our club with great community exposure. Snowmobile Giveaway Our Third Annual raffle is underway and the money collected from ticket sales is a little bit less than what was collected at this time a year ago. Tickets continue to be sold at many of the Minocqua area map ad sponsors. This summer, some of you were distributed tickets to either sell or purchase. If you still have unsold tickets in your possession, and have no intention of buying or selling them, please return them to the club ASAP. The Black Bear Bar is the drop off location for money & ticket stubs or unsold tickets. Trail Pass Information Everyone who uses Wisconsin snowmobile trails must display a Trail Pass Sticker on the middle of their windshield (or in a highly visible location if there is no windshield). You may also ride with a receipt for up to three weeks after a trail pass is purchased. To order your Trail Pass you must know the registration number of your snowmobile and to order the discounted pass through the AWSC, you also need to know your membership number (found on your yellow membership card or on the mailing label of the WSN magazine). Contact our Club Membership Chair, Karen Kloes (through our web site) if these resources are not available and she ll provide you your number.
