(YEA or NAY?!) THINK SNOW!! Our February Mixer/Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 18 at 7pm at the Haven. Located at 117 Langhorne Avenue (at the bottom of Southmont Blvd), the Haven has been a favorite Johnstown neighborhood bar for many years. Dates to Remember. President s Message Hi Ski Club Members Well it looks like we are in the middle of winter. The temperature has plunged and snow is on the ground and hopefully members are taking advantage of the ski discounts the club receives from the local ski areas. For the non skiers, there are a lot of activities planned for February. Some of the highlights for February will be Wine Pairing at Press Bistro, Ladies Night at the Back Door Café, - Hey Guys - Men s Night at the Boulevard Grill, Rock and Glow Bowling and the annual Chinese Dinner. Please be aware of the RSVP dates. Officers continue to plan activities and would like any and all ideas from the membership. Remember if any member has questions concerning the operation of the club they are very welcome to attend a board meeting, just simply ask any officer. The board works hard at trying to stay on budget but some costs continue to rise. Right now we are working on details for the Spring Party; so don t forget to mark April 16th on your calendar. This month, Althea will be teaching us her Zumba Toning class. The class uses lightweight Toning Sticks to enhance sense of rhythm and coordination, while toning target zones. This is a fun race for all ages and abilities for skiers and snowboarders. Entry fee is $15 by 4pm on Saturday, Feb 20, or $25 after 4pm. Registration is 8:30-9:45am on Sunday near the ticket window. Entry fee includes the NASTAR fee and an Awards Party at 3:30pm in Mueller s Pub. Club race participants can buy a lift ticket for $30 with their club membership card. Saturday, February 27 at 7:30pm Blues Gathering at VOMA RSVP by Tuesday, February 17 Come and enjoy a celebration of the blues with performances by local and regional musicians as part of the Blues series at Venue of Merging Arts (VOMA) located at 307 Chestnut Street in Cambria City. Drive yourself or car pool 1 1/2 hour to ski for the day. Group price for 20 or more is $49 to ski from 9am to 5pm. Meet at Home Depot at 7am for a scenic drive down Rt 219 to WISP Resort, MD. Sunday, March 6 at 5pm Club Dinner (Italian Feast) at Rizzo s of Windber RSVP by Friday, March 4 Club dinner is at Rizzo s for their Italian Feast Dinner. Join group leader Cindy Formica for a family-style dinner. Total price is $21.50 per person which includes tip and tax. Here are the details: you must sign up and pre-pay by Friday, March 4. This is non-refundable. Rizzo s will be making the feast for that number of people who RSVP and pre-pay to Cindy. Cindy will take the first 35 people who sign up. ALL tickets need to be returned to group leader Gil Demos ASAP so new tickets for the March 19 game can be reissued. Our seats will still be in the lounge box. Reminder: No food will be served in the boxes. You may purchase food at the War Memorial. No outside food or drinks are allowed in the boxes. Saturday, July 9 Bus Trip to Pittsburgh for PNC Tour & Pirate Baseball Game RSVP by Saturday, April 2 The club has organized a bus trip to Pittsburgh for a tour of PNC Baseball Park and a Pirate Baseball Game for Saturday, July 9. The trip is $95. RSVP is Saturday, April 2 with a deposit of $50. And a Good Time was had by All.. Zumba class at Geistown Country Club on first and second Thursdays in January: A few club members have been attending club member Althea Stephenson s Zumba classes. Her classes are high energy and a fun work-out, and the one hour class flies by! Hope to see you at her February classes. Club Group Picture at Christmas Tree in Central Park on Friday, January 8: Even though it was raining hard, 18 hardy members braved the wet conditions and showed up for the photo. When it was time for the photo, there was only a very light drizzle so we barely got wet. Exactly at 5pm, the lights and music came on. It was a beautiful sight! Special thanks to club member Judy Crookston for taking the photo and to her valuable assistant (husband Denny). Happy Hour at Freight Station Friday, January 8: We had another big crowd at our Friday Happy Hour. After the Group Picture, the gang went over to the Freight Station and met up with 12 members already wetting their whistles. WPSC s Learn-to-Ski/Board at Seven Springs on Sunday, January 10: Rainy afternoon did not stop a few beginner skiers for the Learn-to-Ski/Board lesson. The lesson was a savings of $80 which included a 2 hr lesson, rental equipment, helmet, and limited access lift ticket. WPSC would like to thank Snowsports School Director JB Brier for offering this program this season. Westmont Indoor Golf at Westmont Square on Friday, January 15:: Eight golfers and two caddies enjoyed golf and catered buffet at Westmont Indoor Golf. Club Mixer/Meeting at TnC s on Thursday, January 21: Our first winter Mixer/Meeting was held at TNC s Lounge. It was another great turn-out with nearly 40 members attending, enjoying good food and good conversations. Annette Kamzik was very lucky that night. Thanks to Terry and Chuck, owners of TNC s, for their great hospitality. Tomahawks Hockey Game at War Memorial on Saturday, January 23: The Hockey Game was cancelled due to Winter Storm Jonas. Club Dinner at El Jalisco on Sunday, January24: There were 28 members and friends feasting at our annual Mexican dinner. With great service, good food, that beautiful décor, and fine margaritas, everyone had an enjoyable time. We even got to celebrate club member Barb Young s birthday.
