HISTORY LENNO is a village of about 1700 inhabitants, situated on the west side of the Lake of Como. Its name comes from Lemnos, an island of the Hellenic archipelago, homeland of the first colonists. According to many scholars Lenno, as well as the rest of the Lake of Como, has been inhabited since the prehistory, when the civilization of Golasecca flourished. Later, between the 6th and 5th century B.C., the local populations mixed together with the Celtic ones. But it was not before 196 B.C., when the area of Como was incorporated into the Roman Empire, that Lenno became an actual urban community. This is the period when the parish church, built on the ruins of a watering place, and the villa of Plinio the Young date back to. It seems that the rests of two Corinthian columns of this Seite 13 von 15
