They split the $100 prize money as they each had 3 new members this year! Congrats to the Homemakers in Progress for the $50 they received from the Homemaker Council for being the newest club formed! Special thanks to: Country Ladies donated 127 packages of items for the community service project for the senior center and purchased Valentine cards for the residents at Providence. They also donated 18 bags of animal feed. The Eminence Club donated fleece for the Project Linus program. The Jericho Club donated 90 items for the Senior Citizen community project and 78 items for the school supply project. Correction: In the last newsletter it was recorded that the Jericho Club donated 22 items to the community service project for the Back Pack program but they actually donated 122! Town and Country donated 20 items for the community project; they also donated dog food and made a $30 donation to purchase more dog food. Make and Mend donated Dog food for the Community Project. Busy Bees donated three bags of dogfood for community project, $25 for a 4H Camp Scholarship and sent Easter cards to their adopted seniors. Edith Tennill donated two large bag of cans for the DAV. Saundra Smith noted that we had over 100 pounds of product delivered to the animal shelter. For Project Linus we had 6 in attendance (Becky Jew, Carol Bryner, Kathy Gephart, Cathy Schwander, Margaret Hayden, Saundra Smith) and completed 13 blankets for a total of 29 donated. Marcia Reider donated fleece for Project Linus and Barbara Gregory and several family members got together and made 3 throws for Project Linus.
The New Homemaker Club for the younger generation, the Homemakers in Progress is meeting at the Extension Office on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00. They also have a Facebook page just look up Henry County Homemakers in Progress! Barbara Gregory taught them to make homemade fried chicken at one of their meetings! The Country Ladies also made Lavender Sugar Scrubs as a special fun project at one of their meetings, they had 16 in attendance and 2 new members! If you take photos of your club activities and send them in we will try and use! Winning items at Area Cultural Arts Competition held in Oldham County Ruth Earl Harrod-Blue in Beaded Work; Malissa Beatty Blue in Pen and Ink, Acrylic Painting, Painting on Wood, and Painting on Other. These five items will be entered in the state competition in Northern Kentucky in April! Congrats to Ruth Earl and Malissa!!
Living Well The Living Well Club is designed for improving the quality of life of those over 50! We cover balance, coordination, fall reduction and chronic disease with an emphasis on Living Well. Classes are from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Henry County Extension Office. Sequence Game Day is also on Fridays at 9:30!! Come join the fun and brain activity that playing games brings! Call for a full schedule and then stop by and see if Living Well is for you! Tuesday, April 12, 2016 Second Wind Dreams Committee T he Second Wind Dreams committee meets at the Henry County Extension Office at 1:30 on the second Tuesday of the month. We have granted 349 dreams for Senior Citizens. Come join us as we work to begin the Music and Memory program! Saturday April 16 Arts & Crafts Guild Spring Art Show The Art Guild is holding their annual Spring Art Show at the 4H Center at the Henry County Fairgrounds from 10am-4pm. Saturday, April 16 Walker Bag Work Day! We originally had scheduled this Saturday work day at the Extension Office to make the Dining Vests for residents at Providence New Castle, but we learned that they needed the Walker Bags that are made out of rectangular fabric placemats instead. So there are two ways you can help. If you have any nice rectangular fabric placemats please donate; they do not have to be new only unstained. We also need 1.33 yards of coordinating inch grosgrain ribbon to complete the bags. Another way to help is to come to our workday on April 16 at the Extension Office and help us make the bags! We will start at 10:00 and end by 1:00. If you would like, bring a sack lunch.
Tuesday, April 26 What Women Should Know about Finances- Planning for Life s Major Events. This is the Homemaker Leader Training for the May club lesson but everyone is welcome. It will be taught here at the Extension Office at 1:30. Wednesday, April 27 Homemaker Book Club (the fourth Wednesday of the month) Come join us to hear about what others are reading. Take a few minutes to share a book you have enjoyed and take home a list of others you might be interested in! Only lasts about an hour! We meet the fourth Wednesday at 1:30 at the Extension Office. Everyone is welcome. April 28 (10-2:00) AARP SAFE DRIVER CLASS: For those over age 55. This class offers you a discount on your car insurance. To find out how much your discount is you need to contact your insurance carrier. (The discount goes up with age). The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. There is no driving test or written test. We will provide a pizza lunch. To register send your check made out to AARP to us at Box 246, New Castle, KY. Saturday, May 14 Farm Safety Day Save the date! This will be held at the Henry County 4H Fairgrounds Building. More information to come. Friday, May 20 Antique Road Show Dr. R.E. Wells, a noted authority on antiques will be hosting an Antique Road Show at the Henry County Extension Office from 1:30 to 3:30. You will need to pre-register and can bring two items to be appraised (no guns; no knives; no coins; and not stamps-if you have an item of furniture that is too large simply take a good photo and bring a drawer that is representative of the piece if possible). Everyone will arrive and be set up for him to start at 1:30. You will receive a number and he will appraise the items in order. Dr. Wells always does a roadshow at the end of the antique series he teaches and it is fascinating to have an item appraised but it is also equally fascinating to watch the items discussed. If you don t want to bring an item but just want to attend please indicate that when you register. He can do about 45 items so there will be a limit to how many will be able to bring items, so call early to reserve your spot.

T his is a great program to help you better understand yourself and how to have more successful personal and professional relationships! The cost of the day is $20 (which includes lunch). Maryellen has several scholarships available so if you are interested in attending please let her know by May 13. Steve is an award winning food, spirits and travel writer. He is the author of Country Ham: A Southern Tradition of Hogs, Salt & Smoke. The event will begin with refreshments and sign in at 9:30 at the Bullitt County Extension Office located at 384 Halls Lane, Shepherdsville. The menu will include a boxed lunch by Linda Aldridge and will be $15. Make your checks to Henry County Homemakers and mail to the office by September 22.
