Slovenian Beekeeping LLC Presents SLOVENIA APICULTURAL TOUR Celebration of World Bee Day 20 May May 17th 30th 2018 Slovenia lies in the center of Europe, where the Alps meet the Mediterranean area and the Karst changes into sumptuous forests. You will be captivated by the blue Adriatic Sea and the mysterious Karst with its subterranean caves. The beautiful world of the mountains, nature parks, ravines, plateaus and crystal clean waters that pour into picturesque lakes will amaze you. DAY 00: 16 th May Depart the USA for Ljubliana, Slovenia DAY 01: 17 th May: Bled - Arrival to Ljubljana, Slovenia airport. Since everyone arrives at different times, a taxi will bring you to the farmhouse, this expense is on your own and I will let you know how much it is. I will try to combine those arriving at the same time to save money but it is not expensive. - Arrive in Bled Dinner at Povšin Farmhouse. Overnight at Farmhouse Povšin and at nearby Farmhouse Mulej. DAY 02: 18 th May: International Beekeeping Conference - International beekeeping conference will take place in Žirovnica from 09-3, but we have no details for the moment. Once we see the itinerary we will decide if it is something to attend or not. If not, then we will be visiting other really cool places! - Bled visit on you own (can take gondola to the island on Lake Bled or visit Bled Castle).
DAY 03: 19 th May: Beekeeping Kralov med Beekeeping Brane Kozinc - Breakfasst - Meeting with your guide - Beekeeper Brane Kozinc & his bee mating station in the Krma Valley - Blaz Ambrozic Apiary visit at 3, he is within walking distance of where we are staying DAY 04: 20 th May: WORLD BEE DAY and visit to Petra Plestenjak - Celebration of World Bee Day in Žirovnica, from 10-2 (we are waiting for the program). WBD was initiated by the Slovenian Beekeepers Association and 20 May is the birthday of Anton Jansa, a very famous Slovene beekeeper in the 1700 s. The celebration will be in his home town where his bee house has just been renovated. - Petra Plestenjak wood hand carvings of molds and other items, she is delightful DAY 05: 21 st May: Kokl beekeeping Slovenian Beekeeper s Association Andreja Stankovič beekeeping - Kokl Beekeeping, Tomaz has a large bee house and he will show us how he manages it - Slovenian Beekeeper s Association + lecture Mr. Šivic: apitherapy + ecological varroa treatment - Andreja is a potter and 4 th generation beekeeper, we will visit her studio then her wonderful beehouse followed by an incredible outdoor dinner picnic. Dinner and overnight in farmhouse Pr Lazarju in Ljubljana. DAY 06: 22 nd May: Beekeeper Hauzer Herbal & Beekeeping Farm - Drive to Styria Region - Hauzer beekeeping-collector of antique bee houses with lunch (not included) - Herbal & Beekeeping farm, you will fall in love with this garden and its owners - IF TIME PERMITS: Kocbek Pumpking Oil-LOVE this oil and so will you! Dinner and overnight at Firbas Farmhouse. DAY 07: 23 th May: Wine tasting in Meranovo Honey sparkling mead tasting at Beekeeping Cesar - Meranovo Maribor: wine tasting - Beekeeping Marko Cesar: Honey sparkling mead tasting Drive to Ljubljana. DAY 08: 24 th May: Idrija visit - Idrija visit: Old town bee house visit & Mercury mine Antonijev rov & Idrija museum visit (famous Idrija lace if time permits) This mine is fascinating. - Drive to Kobarid, this is the area where I lived for 5 years. Most will be staying at the Kamp and the rest up in my village at a B & B, the Kamp accommodations are wonderful Overnight at Kamp KOREN DAY 09: 25 th May KAMP KOREN Breakfast. This is a free day for those who want to do adventure sports like paragliding, white water rafting, zip lining, hiking or just relax in this gorgeous valley. The Kamp is within walking distance to the town with excellent restaurants, bars, and a few shops. Dinner will be at two of my neighbors where I used to live, we will enjoy the famous cheese soup and dessert at one place then to my other neighbour who is a cheese maker and we will help him while enjoying the 2 nd part of our dinner. Over night at the Kamp Koren. DAY 10: 26 th May KAMP KOREN Breakfast. Another free day. So many things to do! We can discuss as a group what we want to do. Wonderful hiking, tons of WWI history and a famous WWI museum in town or spend the day in Venice which is only 2 ½ hrs away!!! ALL ACTIVITIES IN THESE FREE DAYS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE, ONLY BREAKFAST AND ONE DINNER. DAY 11: 27 th May: Sečovlje Saltpans Piran visit - Sečovlje Saltpans of Piran, located on the Adriatic Sea. I love this place and the salt is delicious, I use it on everything! - Piran visit, very old seaside town, very beautiful - Possible boat tour on your own- I need to check into this - Short visit to the walled village of Štanjel. Dinner Kobjeglava Štanjel. Overnight in farmhouse Škerl. DAY 12: 28 th May: Irma beekeeping Vina Kras wine & drys ham tasting Lipica visit - Irma PETELIN beekeeper - Vina Kras wine cellar with tasting of some great wine and dry ham - Lipica visit, where the famous Lippazan horses are from! Dinner and overnight at farmhouse Pr Lazarju in Ljubljana.
DAY 13: 29 th May: Brane Borštnik bee polen Koželj beekeeping & bee breading - Brane Borštnik beekeeper, he is very knowledgeable about bee pollen - Koželj apicultural museum & queen breeding station Dinner and overnight at farmhouse Pr Lazarju in Ljubljana. DAY 14: 30 th May: Departure - Transfer to the airport. The bus will be used for when the majority of the group leaves. Try to aim for no departures before 11 otherwise we will arrange a taxi for you. The airport is less than an hour away. Taxi is not included but not expensive.
