Hawkins were placed in the Archives of the Labor and Urban Affairs in April of 1980 by Charles T. Hawkins and were opened for research in May of 1988. Charles T. Hawkins was born October 21, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland, graduated from Loyola College, class of 1942, with a B. S. in Physics. While in college Charles Hawkins received flight instructions through the Civilian Pilot Training Program at the Baltimore School of Aeronautics, Curtiss Wright Airport.In September, 1943 he was employed by Pan American Airlines. During his years at PAA Captain Hawkins, assigned to bases in Miami, Trinidad, Berlin, and New York, flew to the Carribbean, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Captain Hawkins joined the Air Line Pilots Association in 1944 and served various terms as co-pilot representative, senior co-pilot representative in New York and chairman of the Berlin Council. He also served as a member and chairman of the ALPA Organizational Structure Study Committee, ALPA delegate to the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Association's Industrial Study Group and delegate to the annual IFALPA conference. The papers of Charles T. Hawkins reflect his work as an official representative of the ALPA-PAA negotiating committees of 1957, 1959, 1962 and 1967. Important subjects covered in the collection are: D. L. Cole Fact Finding, 1957-1959, 1961 Presidential Commissions I and II, 1961 Presidential Emergency Board 143, 1961 Taylor Board, Crew Complement Issue, 1962 An index to subjects will be found on page 9.

Some agreements from other airlines are also included. Series II, ALPA - PAA General Office Files, 1958-1977, Boxes 12-27: Agendas, general correspondence, correspondence related to crew reduction, crew complement, furloughs, grievances, council minutes, newsletters, programs, reports, studies, manuals and IFALPA conference reports. Also included are preparation notes for negotiations. Non-manuscript Material: Two photographs, a turbo-prop and a jet aircraft, have been placed in the Archives Audio Visual Collection. Numerous pamphlets concerning airline employees and airline magazines, received with this collection, are available in the Archives Library.
