ITEMS FOR SALE If you would, please post the following in your next newsletter, and any other club you think would benefit: Hello, my name is Ian Thurston, KE6CBL. Many of you knew my grandfather, Walt Davis, WA6ODQ, and of his recent passing in July of this year. My family has decided to part with his green comm.-van that he had purchased in the beginning of 2001. The ad is listed as follows, and more information can be found within the next few days at http://www.wa6odq.com <http://www.wa6odq.com This van was used by the Forestry Service, and it's gear ratio was lowered for use in mountain roads. It has accommodations for a generator, several lead-acid batteries, 12V-110V inverter if you wish, antennas, A/C unit in the communications room, and much more. The engine is a strong 5.8L with lots of "get-up-and-go", and seems to be in a mechanically sound condition. If you've seen this vehicle, you know what I mean. Pictures will be posted soon at the website listed above. 1979 Chevy Box Van, V-8 5.8L, Automatic, Power Steering Added modifications. I send you this article in order to give you advice: Sir Cam, the annoying e-mail worm that simply won't go away, turned feral Oct. 16. According to analysis of Sir Cam's code, every year on Oct. 16 the worm will delete all the files and folders contained on the hard drives of randomly selected Sir Cam-infected computers. Those who have clicked on a file attached to an e-mail that reads, in part, "I send you this file in order to have your advice," have a few days to make sure the worm is not lurking in their computers 73s Everyone...Jim KE6VUJ =========================== =========================== RAMONA OUTBACK AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY Page 7

Equestrian Endurance Ride On October 5 th and 6 th ROARS assisted in an Equestrian Endurance Ride in Pama Valley. This was an exercise to test the ROARS technical and communication skill before some of the BIG events coming early next year. APRS was used with a Portable Digipeater from Fred, WA0RT0, who helped plan the event with Paul, KF6QXP. Paul was gracious enough to have the ROARS Communication Trailer parked at his property and provide for tent camping, if you were so inclined. We had some trouble with the APRS trackers, but it provided ROARS a chance to repair and improvise in the field. One of the horses could not make it through the Sunday ride and ROARS coordinated the trailer for the pick-up. While that was happening, a rider was thrown and dragged in view of KF6QXP, who called Net Control for a Paramedic. We had some trouble with the Repeater phone patch but Randy, KF6ZPN, was monitoring and call Karen, KG6BAY, to stand-by while a nurse from a Pulse & Respiration station did a preliminary check of the thrown rider. All-in-All, the rider rode back to camp, slowly. Although ROARS had some problems, these are the very things that field exercises provide for. Thanks to Jim, KG6CKC, Camp Supervisor, Marlene, KF6QXP, Net Control, Clark, KJ6KF, Terry, N6AHE, Doc, K6DOC, Don, KF6AUP, and the family members for a fine weekend.
