exhibitions in 2016 1 2 March 25 to July 3 Caillebotte, Painter and Gardener Known for a long time as a wealthy amateur painter, collector and patron of his friends, today Gustave Caillebotte is seen as an important member of the impressionist group. Famous for his paintings inspired by the Paris of Baron Haussmann, Caillebotte also painted many garden scenes in his work. Caillebotte painted his first studies directly from nature in his family s property at Yerres. Later on, he acquired a property in Petit Gennevilliers, where he laid out a sumptuous garden and built a greenhouse. Like his friend Claude Monet, with whom he shared a passion for horticulture, he focused on depictions of the natural world. At the musée des impressionnismes Giverny, about a hundred artworks in the form of paintings and drawings will be brought together to reveal this aspect of his art. 1 Gustave Caillebotte Partie de bateau, dit Canotier au chapeau haut de forme, 1878 Collection particulière RMN-Grand Palais Photo: Daniel Arnaudet 2 Gustave Caillebotte Voiliers à Argenteuil, 1888 Paris, musée d'orsay, RF 1954 31 RMN-Grand Palais (musée d Orsay) Photo: Hervé Lewandowski 3 Joaquín Sorolla Retour de la pêche : halage de la barque, 1894 Paris, musée d Orsay, RF 948 RMN-Grand Palais (musée d Orsay) Gérard Blot Hervé Lewandowski 4 Joaquín Sorolla Le Saut à la corde. The exhibition was a resounding success and helped establish Sorolla s international reputation. His masterful rendering of light effects led critics to view Sorolla as an impressionist painter. The exhibition Sorolla and the Paris Years will demonstrate how he created a surprising, innovatory style in late 19th-century Paris. The musée des impressionnismes Giverny will bring together around 100 paintings, including 50 oil sketches featuring landscapes, portraits and beach scenes, subjects for which he became famous. Exhibition organized in collaboration with the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich and the Museo Sorolla in Madrid. March 25 to November 6 Monet in the Middle 3 5 4 6 In addition to the temporary exhibitions, the musée des impressionismes Giverny has a permanent display of works that reflect Monet s influence on his contemporaries and on the generations that followed him. This gallery will give visitors an insight into the work of the father of impressionism and its impact on other artists, from the painters of the American colony in Giverny to Joan Mitchell and Hiramatsu Reiji, together with Blanche Hoschedé Monet, Maximilien Luce, and Maurice Denis, etc. While not aiming to be exhaustive, this gallery pays tribute to one of the leading figures in the history of French art by emphasizing how his impact extended beyond his own country and lifetime. 10
