LAKE ERIE CHAPTER # 3738 JUNE. 2011 Volume 2 Issue 6 SPONSORED BY: LAKE ERIE HARLEY DAVIDSON 38401 CHESTER AVON OHIO DIRECTOR S CHAIR MIKE COTRUFO Inside this issue: Finally some great riding weather! We re off and running! I got off to a great start on my first HOG Chapter ride to Smucker s in Orville. Actually, the ride down was quick and everyone who rode down had an excellent time. Even Ron Long found his Jalapeno jelly at Smucker s! Dennis Mullen, along with his Road Captains, did an outstanding job getting everyone down and back safely. I could only go as far as Smucker s; I had a previous commitment with my grandchildren in nearby Wadsworth but I had a blast on the ride down! Let me move to another topic. I ve been in communication with another HOG Chapter in South Africa, the Clearwater HOG Chapter. There are over 600 members in the Chapter; the largest in the European, Middle East and African countries, and in August, 26 of those members are embarking on a 6000+ mile trip across the United States. They will be paying us a visit on August 3 rd at Lake Erie Harley Davidson. Mike Stevens has graciously offered to host the group to a cookout (and they don t know what a cookout is!) at the dealership. The HOG members will be staying at the Fairfield Inn, down the street from the dealership. They will be bringing with them some of their HOG Chapter memorabilia and dealership materials. Phillip Marsh, the Managing Director, asked if all of you (or most of you) would attend the afternoon cookout. I ll let you know what time the actual cookout will be. August 3 rd is on a Wednesday, so make your plans now! There will be more information as the summer continues and I ll let you know the developments. It s going to be a party! As the spring turns into summer, there are plenty of rides and events for your enjoyment. Carolyn Liggett, our new Volunteer Officer, will be asking for your support in the coming days, weeks and months. Everyone who joins in on the fun has a great time, but the requirement of volunteers is needed to pull off all of these events. So, please, register to help out, so that all of us can be a part of the planning and staffing at these outstanding HOG Chapter events! By the way, a BIG THANKS to all of you who have helped out at the dealership events! Each of the Road Captains makes me look good! Thanks! Mike, Bill and Tom, along with the other dealership employees, have expressed their thanks and, most recently, the Harley Davidson Demo Days with Head Director s Chair 1 Ringo Says 2 Sunshine 3 Circle Tour 3 Ohio State HOG 4 Road Captain 4 Minutes 5 Dealer Activities 7 Ladies Ride 8 Activities 9 Membership 9 Birthdays 10 Officer Contract 10

Page 2 DIRECTORS CHAIR - CONTINUED Road Captain, Dennis Mullen, couldnot have been more pleased with all of the Road Captain s participation. That s it for now, so as I always close the Hogwash, let me know what I can do to make your membership experience better. Email me, stop me in the dealership whenever you see me and I will do my best for you! We are the best Chapter in the country! Anyhow, be cool, ride safe and I ll see you soon Mike Cotrufo RINGO SAYS - ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - RON LONG HI Everyone, Out riding while the sun is shinning

Page 3 SUNSHINE Sunshine is not always your friend. Make sure to consider putting on some sun screen. It has been a long cloudy spring and now that the sun is out, take the appropriate precautions. You don t want to be one peeling on Wednesday because you did not think you needed any sunscreen on Saturday. Take care out there. WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON JULY 4TH??? Lake Erie loop ride When: Jul 2 4, 2011 Where: Lake Erie Harley-Davidson 38401 Chester Rd., Avon, OH 44011 440-934-5000 (map) Description: Road captain Tom Easterday is leading a two day ride around Lake Erie (passport required). Page 8 LOL.. LOH RIDE! - KAREN GILLEY Ah what a beautiful day for a ride and a wonderful day for our director of Ladies of Harley to get her feet wet as a first time Road Captain! We had ten prior sign-ups but grew rather quickly to a total of twenty-two riders, only two of us, however, were actually women on our own bikes??? The ride started out uneventful with Kim and I in the lead, Ron Long (minus the skirt he had planned on wearing) and Dave Johnson riding mid-way amongst the crowd, with Mark Fundak and Dennis Mullen riding sweep. We headed to the Grafton Police Station to pick up one more lady, Chris Desimone, along with a few others and found out that Arlene Morrison couldn t ride, due to a prior injury, but she came to see us off. (Wishin you all the best at healing Arlene you ll ride with us all sooner than you think!) We left with the directions clear in our heads to make a right turn at 57 heading toward Medina. Trying to keep sight of all of us in her mirrors, Kim glanced briefly to check on us all and promptly missed the turn well, being her wing-man, I couldn t very well turn without her so we headed on down the road, with all of our followers knowing full well we d re-adjusted. In an effort to find another path to RT18, Kim turns down no other than Weigel street, coincidentally, and quickly asked me if it went all the way through to 18.the answer to which I had absolutely no idea. Just knew if we kept going South, we d find Medina eventually. Then, upon reaching Weigel s dead end, I mistakenly told Kim to go left, when my head said right, and she turned.took me a few minutes to accept my stupidity as all behind were wondering if perhaps I d taken leave of my senses. Finally took the turn and hit Station, which I felt sure would lead us all the way to 18. We rode and we rode and finally hit the end of Station, which was marked Norwalk Road. Now, perhaps you all know what that road is, but as we turned left, again, we were wondering if we d ever make it to our destination! After a short while, we noticed signs on the side that indicated we had, indeed, found RT18.boy, what a surprise and relief that was. Guess us ladies are luckier than we give ourselves credit for! Reaching our destination of Root Candles, in Medina, we all shared quite a chuckle and mentioned that we just wanted all the guys on the ride to know what it feels like to go on and on and on.without ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS! Oh LOL! And the more we explained our errors the more everyone told us that we should just say we d planned the entire trip???? And that s what we ll all say, now, if asked.as that s our story and we re sticking to it!!! After a short jaunt around the pleasure palace of candles and assorted knick-knacks, we headed off to the place Kim had planned for lunch, only to find out that, even though she had called ahead and they said they opened for lunch, they opened at five on Saturday s! How lucky it was that we all saw the Patio Open sign at the Corkscrew Saloon, just minutes down the street! We sat twenty-two on the patio and made their day in business, as we ate wonderful food by a pleasant waterfall and small pond. It turned out to be one of the more enjoyable rides I ve ever been on with good friends and happy people! My thanks to Kim who learned to be a Road Captain in a trial by fire and to all of the folks that rode with us Thanks for your patience and your stick-to-it-ivness and your smiles and chuckles during the day. As we all know, it s not the destination.it truly is the adventure in following the roads and finding out that, sometimes, they lead you to where you wanted to go in the first place!!!! LOLOLOLOL Karen Gilley
